Keep Nick (And throw him in the midfield)

I have to say from last nights game the biggest positive I could find was Nick Davis. His performance last night convinced me for the first time that he could play midfield. His workrate was great and when he got the ball he mostly used it very well, something the rest of our midfield knows little about. As he can be so dangerous up forward he could easily rotate into the midfield and rest at full forward. Could this be a plan we use beyond Micky O'.

Thoughts? And I don't want any talk of how it wont happen because there is a conspiracy against him by Roos and Kirk.

You gotta be joking right? Kirk and Nick working together? I'd like to see that. Sometimes I think Kirky would rather loose his left (or right) testicle that having Nick in the same playing group.

Yep Nick as a receiving midfielder then at least we would have one who could kick it down our forwards throat.

On of the few positive aspects of the game for me was not so much Davis' performance as the fact it should have answered the question on how he is best used.

He spent some time in the forward line but also a lot of time down the ground. Result was not just that he was useful down the ground but also that he chipped in with two goals as the result of presenting himself to the right spot at the right time. Compare that with the previous week...

He's a player that needs to be involved to keep his own interest sharp and when the team isn't functioning well, being stuck deep in the forward line isn't the place to be. Surely they need to bring in another tall option who can mark up forward and whose height means he is more capable of being an alternative target to Hall and O'Loughlin (ie whoever plays the best today out of Grundy, Vogels or Doyle) and free Davis up to play a genuine HFF role, rather than the FP role. If we got two goals every week from each of Davis and O'Keefe playing up and down the ground as they both did yesterday, we'd all be pretty content I reckon.

i thought his ability to read the play around the packs was really good, better than our other midfielders and I think he would make a very good outside midfielder. Just needs more time

I totally agree with the Davo move. He is a beautiful kick, but he just does not get enough of the ball in such a crowded and talented forward line. Move him up the ground, where he will get more of the ball and make better use of that beautiful kicking of his.

Also, give Malceski a try in the middle. He is a good athlete, and knows how to find the ball. I think he has pretty good disposal, but his decision making at times can be poor. A stint in the midfield will be great for his development and we may even unearth something...

I also thought Nick Davis played extremely well and could play up the defence end as well as he did last night. Showed plenty of run and just needs to get more involved tackling. Come on Roos give him a move and space and give the others a rest. McVeigh and perhaps Jude Bolton looking very tired.

We need to turn up next week in a real good energy drive as we play Power and they are now in first place seeing Geelong kicked West Coast butts by 39 points.

Damn what a game to play next week.

Not 'til the Irishman is back. We need him too much patrolling across the half back line because he's about the only one able to bring it out with any purpose at the moment.
