    I'm convinced...

...That AFL umpires umpire the game and pay free kicks on what the reputation of a player is.

Players like Hall, will never get a fair go from the umpires because of the "Big Bad Bustling Barry Hall" reputation. Whereas the Reiwoldts, Hirds etc are given easy (read soft) free kicks because they have a reputation for being "clean" players. I am not saying that the above two examples are not good players because they are, but it's time all play was adjudicated on what actually happens, not what the reputation of the player is in the umpires minds.

Well the AFL have now decided that some players are worthy of greater protection.

I can't begin to explain how angry I am at this.

Not quite true Hammo. It appears Jude is the only protected species on our team.

            That reminds me.

What were the first 3 frees for in the centre of the ground at the Ruck contest(all against Jolly)?
They all went the saints way, but we couldn't see what the issue was from where we were.

One was for a centre square infringement, one was a soft shepherd off the ball against Mathews, and the other? NFI

The first one I think was against Kirk for holding.

Don't recall the next two but there was one paid against Jolly for trying to fend off Kossie during a ruck contest and his arm / hand slipping up to Kossie's face. Which was fair enough, though later in the game Kossie jumped in a ruck contest and (accidentally) put his knee in Jolly's face but that was deemed to be fine.

Its all becoming a bit of a farce - If the AFL and its representatives on the field (ie, the umpires) have put a list like this together, I hope they have "B-pay" facilities so as the protection money gets into the Umpires Christmas Party account on time each week. the thing is - it doesnt surprise me that the AFL have their "favourites". Perhaps Andy D is still pissed off that he was proven wrong in 2005 so naturally none of our players would be on the list.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Ex umpire Derek humphrey Smith said on SEN the other night the reason he believes Hally doesnt get many free's for,is that he whingers to much and i agree. So just get on with it big Bazza and don whinge,on another note i didnt see Rewoldt whinge for free's against us,did he?So maybe thats the go just shut up and take it on the chin and fingers crossed the ump will pay it if it's there.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

That's why he is an ex umpire - Any official that is there to adjudicate a game that pays more attention to the whinging of a football player than the rules he is supposed to enforce, deserves no less than to never adjudicate a game again.

Human nature - all umpires in all codes do it to some extent, especially on lin-ball decisions.
