We desperately need a crumbing forward!

The amount of inside 50s we generate we are definitely not getting enough reward as opposition teams are getting it out of the danger zone so easily.

One thing i notice is that we don't have anyone crumbing our packs which is no doubt frustrating.

An Alwyn Davey who has whippet pace, great goal sense and defensive pressure would be awesome to have and the icing on the cake for our forward line (not to mention a crowd pleaser.)

If we had Campbell or Alwyn Davey playing for us i could assure you we would be getting alot more shots at goal.

    What does everyone reckon?

I think we have a goal sneak and his name is Simon Phillips. He just wasn't on the ground tonight, also is not Indigenous, but I get your drift, ie Indigenous = quick, footy smarts, great skills around goal. We need someone around goal who'se name isn't Barry Hall.
Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.

Fair point. Our forward line crumbing is woeful.

Maybe Phillips is that guy. I think Schneider could be too, but rarely spends time forward now. Possibly that's McVeigh's last chance.

Bad recruiting. Too much faith in what we have already ie that they will eventually come good. There are several aboriginal players that we could easily have drafted but they are continually overlooked.

I don't know about that, I thought the Roos crumbed our fwd line nicely.

Agree totally. We could've had Alwyn playing for us, and everytime I see him now I wonder just how good this Daniel O'Keefe is?

Having watched some of the NTFL on Fox, I suggested long ago that the Swans recruiters get up to Darwin pretty fast and sign up the local talent. I know it's a hell of a difference in standard to the AFL, but speed, goal smarts and a natural affinity with the football from kids who just love playing from very young ages, go a long way for me...much more than our midfielders who seem to just clog the ball up, whine when they get pinged, and who, if they do get a clearance seem more often than not to just whack it on the boot and send it in the general direction. I'd love to have a Pearce or Davey playing in red and white...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

How many crumbing goals did the Roos get last night? Even Petrie was in on the act!

It is the Swans' major weakness - we don't get crumbing goals and we let far too many in.

People need to bear in mind that Alwyn Davey turns 23 in 10 days time and has a decent amount of experience in the SANFL. So while Essendon would be delighted with what he has brought to their team and how quickly he is making an impact, you can't really compare him with an 18 yo draftee, or even with a 20yo and skinny Phillips. His scope for signficant further improvement may be limited.

The one I can't believe got missed was Pearce, especially after people were shaking their heads wondering how Aaron Davey got through to the rookie list.

We desperately need a crumbing forward!

Even through our success of 05 and 06 we have lacked a genuine crumbing goal sneak. I suspect Schneider was originally earmarked for the role but has developed more into a run with player. Most clubs have a genuine crumbing forward, here is a rough list..add players who I may have left out:

                          Adelaide: ???
                          Brisbane: Ash McGrath
                          Carlton: Eddie Betts
Collingwood: Alan Didak / Leon Davis
Essendon: Alwyn Davey / Andrew Lovett
                          Fremantle: Farmer
                          Geelong: Gary Ablett
                          Hawthorn: ???
                          Melbourne: Aaron Davey
                          North Melbourne: Campbell
Port Power: Daniel Pearce / Ebert
                          Richmond: Tambling / Krackour
                          St Kilda: Milne
                          Sydney: XXXXXXXX
West Coast: So many fast midfielders, they are always at Lynch's feet
                          Western Bulldogs: ???

                            Adelaide: Burton?
Hawthorn: Buddy can do it all.
                            Sydney: Opposition Crumber.

Bump. Since we are playing for now (our premiership window) we probably should of taken Alwyn Davey with pick 15. Again no one picking up the spills in our forward line last week.
