    Kevin Sheedy

There's something compelling about the senile old fool. There is no doubt he's good for Essendon and AFL in general, and I think he's been unfairly criticised for allowed his 3/4 time address to be shown on television.

Admittedly, the talk was uninspiring. We may never know if he 'checked' what he was saying, but it shows he's always looking at new ways of reinventing himself, Essendon FC and the game.

The question is can he still mix it with the master coaches, have his skills diminished, or has Essendon's poor list and injuries just conspired against him.

Sheedy says if he were sacked from Essendon he'd still be keen to coach elsewhere. It's a shame Wallace still has a number of years to run on his Tigers contract because I'd like to see the romance of Sheedy return to his spiritual home.

So does he still have a lot to offer and where will he be next year?

Obviously Roos isn't going anywhere, but would you like to see Sheedy as a coaching director at the Swans? Perhaps overseeing development of our young players and juniors in NSW/ACT? It would present a new challenge for Sheeds in a non-football state which still has a long way to go in terms of development.

I've heard a lot about him being criticised for the 3/4 time speech but not why. I thought it was a really interesting exercise. Why is he getting bagged for it?

Tough business AFL - a few weeks ago people were singing Sheedy's praises & saying he'd reinvented the Bombers all over again.

Sheeds could do great things for the game up here - one of the few people in AFL that you feel are as passionate about the game as they are about their own teams' performance.

Don't know where he'll be, but I think he still has a lot to offer. I like Sheedy.

Bah..... He gets under the pump from the club, media and supporters every three years..... But 20+ years later, he's still there... Personally, I reckon he starts most of the rumours himself. Being the media whore that he is, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Notwithstanding though, he does bring a lot to the game in general. It would be sad to see him go and I don't think footy would be the same.

Sheedy has always expressed interest in Sydney AFL and has always been a huge supporter of the game up there.

Many years ago when he was on the rocks at Essendon, he suggested Sydney as the club he would want to move to if pushed out of Essendon.
However he pulled one of his magic tricks and managed to stay.

I reckon he's gaaaawwwnnnnn this time though.
And I'd say that his interest in the Swans has wained since we won the flag.
Might be more interested in Freo.

I like him and he is a genuine AFL character, but I haven't seen him as a top 5 coach for many many years.
What he has against him is that he's been at the same club for so long and they've stagnated for so long.
Hard to blame other people, recruitment and the like when you've been in charge for so long.

            agreed

sort of wanted him to retire before he gets pushed from the club, there is so much he can offer the afl, both nationally and internationally.

he would probably be the first fully endorsed afl embassador from both the football fraternity and the general public. i would applaud it.

              I like him too.

I wouldn't like to see him go anywhere besides Richmond though....they've been waiting too long.

I found it amusing that some experts found his 3/4 speech uninspiring. How do they explain the comeback in the last quarter?

I think every club would love to have someone like Sheeds. Although the man is more closer to the end of his career than anything else. Has been absolutely great for the game, and the EFC have had great success under him.

I think it's also funny they would find it uninspiring when according to reports it's much the same approach he has used all along, and it has brought 4 flags from 6 grand finals.

There might be a coaching vacancy at Punt Road at the end of the year too.

                        I like Sheedy a lot.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
