There's something compelling about the senile old fool. There is no doubt he's good for Essendon and AFL in general, and I think he's been unfairly criticised for allowed his 3/4 time address to be shown on television.
Admittedly, the talk was uninspiring. We may never know if he 'checked' what he was saying, but it shows he's always looking at new ways of reinventing himself, Essendon FC and the game.
The question is can he still mix it with the master coaches, have his skills diminished, or has Essendon's poor list and injuries just conspired against him.
Sheedy says if he were sacked from Essendon he'd still be keen to coach elsewhere. It's a shame Wallace still has a number of years to run on his Tigers contract because I'd like to see the romance of Sheedy return to his spiritual home.
So does he still have a lot to offer and where will he be next year?
Obviously Roos isn't going anywhere, but would you like to see Sheedy as a coaching director at the Swans? Perhaps overseeing development of our young players and juniors in NSW/ACT? It would present a new challenge for Sheeds in a non-football state which still has a long way to go in terms of development.
