    Roos: Stats schmats

So many of the statistics we get are flawed because of the way they are collected," he said. "We've done an analysis on kicking efficiency and you'd be staggered to see what is considered to be an ineffective kick. It's amazing.
We were last in kicking efficiency in 2006 and yet

Five of Sydney's players are ranked in the 20 worst performers in the AFL when it comes to hitting targets with their kicks. The only other club that has had so many players in that category in recent times was wooden spooner Carlton last year.

He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Paul has his hand on it again. Of course Kirk's kicks are less likely to be marked. They float in from 30m coming straight down into a pack. A bloke like Malceski will have much more efficient disposal because he will drill the ball and time the pass. Kirk's overall value to the team should not be measured by the efficiency of his disposal - and I don't think it ever has been. But don't make excuses for him Paul, he is a poor kick and always has been. It probably had something to do with why he was delisted the first time.

The terrible thing is that (apart from the usual "kick it to Hall only" option, which you could argue is not overly safe and Jude's "bang it on the boot" love) in general 3 of the 5 players listed with bad hit rates usually take the safe option only with their general field kicking (Fosdike and Buchanan at least are willing to try and be creative, Fosdike in particular).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
