It was an impressive turnaround for Goodes, particularly after poor early-season performances which jeopardized his spot in the senior side. Goodes said he was "definitely" close to being dropped after round seven.
    Yeah right.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

But if someone on RWO suggested he be dropped they would be lynched...

He was never going to get dropped.

But if he had of continued to play the way he was, I would suggest that he should of been.

He's still only put in two games for us this year so let's not get too excited just yet. Want to see him back to his best but it takes more than two games.

          And so they should be.

By Goodes' standards, he has been poor, but he'll NEVER be not in the best 22 in the next few seasons. Players of his ilk are always going to be allowed to run back into form in the seniors because even when they're poor, they'll still attract attention from the opposition better stoppers and they'll still be better than the bottom end of the list.

So was Goodes making up a story or were the selectors on the verge of committing a huge blunder?

Goodes' just giving them a story I'd say.

Not a chance in hell he was going to be dropped.

No, I wouldn't have thought so. More likely he was given a bit of a rocket.

The article in the Herald today said:

"Asked if he seriously thought he'd end up in the reserves, Goodes said 'Yeah, definitely. There was a handful that we had spoken about, and the leadership group had spoken to. . . we are very honest and my effort was not good enough for the first seven rounds. The reality was I possibly could have [been dropped].'"

... not in my reality goodsey!!!
they would never have dropped him, maybe scared him a little is all.
you don't drop the reigning brownlow medalist from your team.
like bbb said ... even if he's playing bad, he still attracts attention from the opposition.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
