the only thing rocket had up his sleeve was the flood.
we used that to our advantage at the time, and now it's old news.
maybe rocket should sit down and take some notes from roosey.
roosey instilled passion into our boys, and it got us one premiership and a grand final showing the year after. that's what the bulldogs are missing.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I'm sure Rocket knows that the Dogs need another plan besides Plan A (run as hard & as often as you possibly can). He implied as much when he was on OTC earlier in the year - he would have been setting this game up to see how much his team really could match it with one of the best "lock-down" teams in the competition. And he'll be scared witless by the results. They look more like downhill skiers (Eade's own words) than ever before.

As we've discussed on here many times, it's lovely to have a team capable of playing full-on attacking footy but it's awfully hard to win a flag if that's the only trick you've got.

Doggies are probably worse off than us. Through some really wretched runs within injury, they probably haven't been able to put their best team on the field for about 3 years. This has effectively narrowed their "window" They have this year and maybe next year to win a flag or their straight back into a rebuilding process. At the end of this year or next the will losse the following:

            Darcy
            West
            Johnson
            Grant
            Aker
            Montgomery

There are several others that will be 30+......

Their big problem now is that the age gap between their proven performers and their young guns is too great. Whereas Sydney has only about 4 players over 30 NEXT year.......

We aren't the ones in trouble. We can probably keep our list almost in it's entirety for up to 2009. By the time the dogs get to 2009, they can kiss away most of their stars.

Yes - that was our 2003 plan, and then it expanded in the next couple of years.

Yes the same can basically be said for St Kilda also.

Their window is almost identical to ours but I think was slammed shut by the Swans in the 2005 PF.

Did they even have a "window"?

Similar to Geelong in 2004, they didnt really seem to be prepared for the possibility they would win. Two very soft exits.

Re the intensity, I think teams and coaches are realising that without it their one-dimensional game plans won't work. Geelong have moved up a notch this season, as have Collingwood and Hawthorn. West Coast, Swans, Adelaide and Brisbane have had that element in their games for a few years.

                      I think they did.

They missed the grand final by a kick in 2004 (vs Port at AAMI) and led at 3/4 time against the Swans in 2005 PF. Both games they lost to the eventual premiers.

I think if they had a window, they would have won those games. Both very winnable. No doubt they had the potential to win both, but I doubt they would have beaten the eventual premier on either occasion considering they didn't have the mettle to get across the line in 04 or 05.

I dont think it was bad luck, or just co-incidence. I dont think they were (or are) good enough to win a premiership.

Just because you have a premiership window doesn't necessarily mean you'll take the chance to win a flag.

If you're lucky you'll win 1 or even 2, maybe 3 as in Brisbane's case. Not all clubs will have the necessary ingredients to go the final step though - e.g. Collingwood 02/03.

I think St Kilda fall into this category and the Bulldogs - with a top heavy and bottom heavy list in regards to experience - are in danger of doing the same.

St Kilda's best chance was in 2005 - no doubt about it.

When it comes to Manuka I agree. I was told a couple of years ago that when Norris Lurker Destructive & a couple of others were singing "My local morgue, is louder than this", that it got on the TV loud and clear. And that was only 3 people singing half-heartedly.

Not a Manuka fan to be honest. Sadly after Bruce Stadium did the dirty during the Olympics and became a rectangle-field only stadium Manuka has had to fill a hole as regards Aussie Rules facilities in the ACT. It is still little more than a re-hashed cricket ground with seats put in in some areas. Facilities-wise it remains very much a country oval, compare with lots red dust flying into your face when the wind blows.

Still, our record in Canberra would be up there with that of the Hawks in Tassie. So if it benefits us and the game to play there, there so be it. Still, I DO have to muse how good it would have been to watch us play arguably the most attractive team in the comp in from of more than 40000 at the Dome. But that is just me a selfish "Victorian" isn't it?
