    Time to change the Sherrin

    I note with interest today Leigh Matthews calling for a change of the Sherrin to a synthetic "nippled" ball similar in composition to that used for the rugby codes. I'm not sure when they made that change but I must admit I got a shock a few years back when someone I knew pulled out a regulation senior rugby ball and it was synthetic and had the raised "nipples".

    With a lot more night games these days there maybe some merit there. That said I always love pulling out a leather Sherrin when my rugby mates are around and see them freak out when they try to get a handle on it!!!

      no way in hell... nothing like grabing a fresh leather sherrin!

                      I don't know how many games of league Lethal has watched lately but ball control is no better with a dimpled ball.

                      Anyhow, they must use about 12 Sherrins per game nowadays so the balls aren't going to get that wet.

                          No. The AFL is already trying to change the fabric of the game with their constant rule changes. Lets keep some tradition in the game.

                              It's not going to happen. With all the fines the AFL are giving out to players and coaches if they mention anything to do with umpires, they can still afford genuine Sherrins, not the synthetic crap imitations.

                                          Why not give it a go,they did in soccar and the ball they use now is @@@@ hot with so much power,swerve and dip in it no wonder its dam hard for the keepers.

                                                      Bit of a moot point realy. It has to @@@@ing rain for the ball to get wet!! Most of the younger players have never played in the rain I reckon.


                                                      But why not. I reckon it's a good idea. When it's wet, you'll see players refrain from marking contests. With a "grippier" ball, perhaps we could eliminate this "wet-weather" style of play.. When it rains of course.
