Given that side's never "fail to turn up"...

...were we simply smashed by a much better side in the first half of last year's GF, outplayed by a side who would not let us play our style of game?

    we failed to turn up.

re fremantle match, it was about a 60% performance on what they could have delivered.

you look at 2005, the boys went in red hot, after creaming st kilda. in the 1st half of 2006, they forgot how to play football, 2nd, they remembered and showed the afl viewing public what they are capable of.

if this team can make 2 more gf's, and play its best game of each season on gf day, it will be another 2 flags.

Failed to turn up = Case of fumbles, no putting in 110%
Better side = Eagles are a better skilled side who played footy from the opening bounce.

Failed to turn up is a very useful phrase that has actual meaning (though not literally, of course).

We "failed to turn up" at the '06 GF and the opening game of 2007.

Bulldogs "failed to turn up" last week. It simply means that the mental preparation did not work and the required effort to produce top football did not happen.

Anyone see the Eagles/Geelong game? Did they "fail to turn up" there? It's definitely been a notable difference between the Eagles and other teams (especially the Swans) that they always seem to turn up...especially for important matches.

"Failed to turn up," should not be confused with "one team is really ordinary and the other is putting in a sensational performance" such as Swans/Richmond '06 and Demons/Eagles '07.

USUALLY less experienced teams suffer from "failed to turn up" syndrome...ie Port 2007...brilliant one week cactus the next.

The Eagles, on the other hand, just perform, whilst the (nearly) most experienced team in the comp (us) is liable to fall 50 points behind against Richmond (My God, I was there that day....eeeeuuuuughg!).

My take is that despite all the success and the quality play our team still lacks genuine belief in its own quality and goes into most games worrying about stuffing up.

This is not an issue for the Eagles who believe all their publicity.

Some posters on RWO have been consistently "failing to turn up" for some time and should be dropped for form & fitness!

I think the Weagles have been a better team than us for 3 years, so am rapt that we have taken 1 flag off them (and hopefully the next one).

Inappropriate use of an apostrophe again. I cannot tell if you mock us, sir, or if your account has been taken over by el tastico.

                  Agree 100%......

We one the flag in 05 because we were hungry and in great form.....

Lost our QF by a point, Wone our SF by 2 points and were white hot against StKilda and made them pay.

We didn't win in 06 because we were to soft and weren't challenged in the finals...
Won our QF by a point, Week off, Smashed Freo in the PF without even trying, and hence, failed to turn up hungry and ready for a fight in the first half...

That would be against RWO rules.
