7 wants to choose who plays on Friday night football.

They want a similar arrangement to what 9 has with the NRL. Hopefully it isn't agreed to.

I like how it's currently shared around also, unless you're the Swans of course.

Still, there are always some late season matches which are meaningless that end up on Friday night. That can't help ratings very much.

Can see where Seven are coming from in terms of wanting the ratings, still I can't see them showing a Sydney game against one live League game, and one on delay for a Friday night.

I doubt Seven has Sydney games in their thinking, as you say Glenn.

It COULD work on odd occasions if 2 Melbourne based clubs swapped with 2 other Melbourne based clubs, but the logistics would be very, very difficult indeed.

The teams swapped to play on a Friday night would be rightly pissed if they were backing up from a Sunday game, doubt the AFL would let it happen.

As the article said, the travelling fans aspect in AFL and Thugby League are poles apart.

Too difficult. The AFL will/should rightly tell them 'no cigar'.

I can see where 7 is coming from, but as has been pointed out in the article and by some here, it seems impractical and unlikely that it will happen due especially to the travelling and work plans of AFL supporters.

Any network would love the NRL system, but TV has ruled their game since Super League and their supporters don't travel like ours do, so I can't see the AFL agreeing to the exact same system.

There will possibly be a compromise though I guess, maybe not announcing times and days for the 2nd half of the season to round 7 or something.

I'd like to see the networks have some choice on this - makes it more likely there will be a good game to watch.

Wow, my first go... here goes.

The televised footy for this year could have been great, all 8 games free to air, but its not great now. 7 stuffed up majorly. now they are trying to find a cheap way out. 7 could of had ratings coming out of there u no whats. they could have shown, live friday nite game, live satday arvo game, live early sunday game, and live late sunday game. imagine that, back to the good old days where footy was actually on TV. LIVE!

                    Great idea.... I love it.

I am sick and tired of watching crap games on Friday night like 1 Vs 16. Pathetic. The way the NRL system works is great.

Each team knows who they're playing and where when the draw is done before the season. they just don't know when until about 3 weeks prior. This gives them the flexibility to telecast the match of the week every single time. And as we all know, what looked like being the match of the week at the start of the year, can be far from it by the yime the middle of the season comes around. Admittedley it works for them because they only televise two games a week but nonetheless, it ensures quality games each week.

We need to jump on board with this. It's a great idea.

And the AFL, when they do the draw in October.
