I wonder how Timmy Schmidt feels about his 18yr old cousin being named for Brisbane this weekend. While Timmy would be happy for him but must wonder why he can't get much AFL game time.Unfortunately for Timmy,Sydney has had an established line up for a while now and it is almost impossible to break into such a successfull group of players. He is very highly rated though and his chance will come.He has proved he can cut it in the one's.

Says alot about where the two respective clubs are at.
While I do think our strong line-up is keeping some of the youngsters from getting more senior games and then more game time when actually in the side, in all honesty if Schmidt was good enough to force his way in (like Malceski) he would be playing senior football.

Understand your sentiments DST, but even Malceski had to cool his heels in the reserves in 2005 when he could have been in the 22 quite easily.Says alot about where the two respective clubs are at.

If Schmidt isn't up to it, and if McVeigh in particular doesn't progress further, then we are in deep @@@@ in 2009."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Don't foget Malceski was coming off a full knee reconstruction so it's not surprising at that age that he had a year in the reserves getting back to where he was before the injury as he just didn't have the body strength and fitness for AFL before he did it.
Agree on 2009, but who really knows what is going to happen.
We have a group of kids such as Schmidt, Thornton, Brabazon, Laidlaw, O'Keefe and Moore that all look capable, but we have a shot at another premiership this year and maybe next year and I am happy for the club to have a red hot go now even if that does but us back a couple of years post 2008.
