    Our Reserves aspire to be...emergencies!

Well that is what it seems sometimes with the Swannies.

Whilst we have enjoyed recent success, I would like to see a few of our young bloods getting a senior gig.

Ryan Brabazon, Laidlaw (I think) and now Thorton have all been named as emergencies (Brabazon regularly) and still have not got a gig for the seniors. It seems to me that perhaps our reserves players may feel that getting to be an emergency is as good and close as it gets to the senior team.

    My thought for the day!!

Hide in the car park with a crowbar & see who you can take out.

IIRC Dempster was named emergency about 20 times before he made his debut. Maybe that is the agreed benchmark.

Unfortunately it's the way things go when you happen to join a club enjoying a sustained period of success - as well as minimal injuries (though these often go hand in hand).

There is probably a Craig Bolton or Jason Gram currently running around with our reserves team but that's something that will just have to be copped on the chin. There are half a dozen kids - at least - who I think have a very good chance of a sustained AFL career and even if it isn't with us, I hope they will make it.

Was just watching the VFL Match on Channel 2 down here in Victoria - a very undermanned Casey Scorpions (who are the VFL affiliate of StKilda) and an almost full-strength Werribee (the affiliate of Western Bulldogs)

Ex Swans Reserves players - James Wall and Stefan Garubba played for Casey. Both played reasonably well in a losing side (50+ points I think...as I gave up to watch the Dees-Adealide match).

Wall played at full back and whilst being undersized (by weight, not height) he kept one of the top full forwards (Podsiadly, who once also did a pre-season with the Swans) to 1-2 goals.

Garubba got alot of the ball as a winger/back flanker and had reasonable pace and skills.

If these are examples of the guys we let go than we can at least say that the guys we have in the Reserves must be pretty good players
