Monty's kicking at goal is appalling. He should be played in a back pocket if he's to play at all.

Amen to that.
The two OOBOTF were both ridiculous. He seems to be getting worse and worse. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

Poor decision making to go with poor skill. One of his OOBOTF in either the 2nd or 4th quarter he had 2 open Swans around 15 metres out right in front, he appeared to see them but still blazed away. Very poor form, he should have just centred the ball by default instead of blazing away- let alone seeming to spot and ignore that he had open players there.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I am not going to defend Monty's skill errors but that was a gut-busting, desperate game he played tonight. I think it is the first time this season we've seen him work his butt off like that. Hopefully the skills will improve - we know he is better than that, at least around the ground - but he's one player whose workrate this year looks to have been well down (maybe lingering knee issues?) so it is a good sign that he is "back" in at least one respect.
For all his clangers, he was still close to Sydney's best, simply because of how hard he worked and some fantastic clearances he achieved.Comment

He needs to be in the midfield, which I think is where he predominantly played. The fact he got forward so often doesn't contradict this. All our mids should be pushing forward at various times and the fact he did it so often is testament to his work rate.
Just needs to work on the kicking but I reckon it could be at least partly fitness related. If he still doesn't feel he's moving that well, he is more likely to rush his disposals more than he needs to.Comment
