How was this mark any more legal than Baz's 'push out' against Michael?

Simple - he's not Barry Hall. Duh. -
As much as i don't want the new rules to take the great marks out of our game, the umpires can't go around deciding to let it go sometimes, just because a great mark followed the hands in the back.Comment

are you guys @@@@ing blind?
leon never once put his hands on johnson's back...i read this thread and had to re-look at the footage, seriously guys stop being so one eyed it makes you sound stupid.
you could've used mcveighs round 3 mark against the blues, he did actually put his hands on thorntons shoulders.Last edited by BBBBH; 5 June 2007, 05:10 PM.Comment

Hall didn't use his hands either but it was deemed illegal. That is the point that's being made."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

i see some subtle minor minuscule less-noticeable differences between the two.
hall did somewhat 'charge' mal out of the contest to infringe in the contest, where leon jumped onto johnson without using his upper body at all but mainly using his legs.
leon had eyes for the ball whereas hall had eyes for micheal.
yeah, the call was harsh on hally but @@@@! these two are really really really different.Comment

i assume we're talking about the contest where half charged into micheals back and he fell then hall took the mark and the free was paid against him.

But your description of the Hall one is way off the mark.
There was no contact with Mal's back. The contact was hip and shoulder to hip and shoulder.
Hall never took his eyes off the ball.
Hall certainly never charged Mal out of the contest. He was essentially stationery and Mal was moving towards him. There was a slight move of the hips by Hall but he was essentially holding his ground. I don't think it was a free against Hall but I acknowledge that others might determine that slight hip movement represents a "push".
But it was certainly not a charge into Mal's back without eyes for the ball.Comment

The only difference is the Davis shove in the back is being lauded as mark of the year and Hall's legitimate use of the body was deemed illegal and cost Sydney the game.
The 'laughable' comparison is the very reason I chose it. I'm sorry it seems to have gone over your head."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

One involved a big shove in the back (with a knee), the other was a hip and shoulder to the side, which you're right, happens on an AFL field a hundred times a week.

johnson was not actually taken out of the contest
mal was, even though it is legal
that is a big difference. idiot.Comment

In the end, Hall got robbed of a goal by piss poor umpiring. Hands in the back and push in the back have turned into a joke and it was only a matter of time the fans and footy "experts" become frustrated and confused by some of the dubious umpiring decisions made in the past few weeks and hopefully the umpiring body can clean up the mess they've made.I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

i see what you mean, if i watch it with one eye open...davis kicked johnson in the back intentionally to take him out of the contest.
whereas as poor old barry clearly was run into by mal who dived making contact with halls shoulder into mals back.
yay, now im one of the gang!

It's clear you have no idea what Hall incident we're talking about"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
