Silvagni never got near a ball without infringing, and for some god unknown reason he was a protected species.
Yes, he was a very good player, but I'd be extremely surprised if there weren't dozens of fullbacks better suited to the title of full back of the century.
If he played today - or for the Swans - he would have given away 20 free kicks every single week.

How many of those full backs kicked as many goals as he did. The guy could play at either end with ease. Carlton also recruited him as a FF not a FB.

For one, he can't kick straight....His second efforts are ordinary at best. He plays for himself......Is there anything else I've forgotten .......OH YES......

bit harsh, i wouldnt say tarrant is over rated. in his last few years at the pies he was playing as FF, which isnt really his position.

at fremantle hes kicked 20 odd goals, presenting, putting in lots of effort and playing some good team footy.

Silvagni was overrated - no way was he the fullback of the century.

Currently I can't think of too many players overrated in the AFL currently. Looking at current form, I would say maybe Hall and J Brown. Probably Goodes.

cast your mind back to 2004 (was decent in 05) and before that, he was a dominant player in the competition, kicked heaps of goals and had the best hands in the comp.

But he was rated as a full back. And selected in the team of the century as a full back.
Full forward doesn't come into the argument - although he was very good on the few occasions he went up there.

His media rating/ presence (not his own doing) would have him in the top ten
forwards in the AFL.
Think through all the full forwards @ tall forward flankers in the league.
I reckon every club has at least one player I would rate ahead of him, most clubs have two or more I'd rate ahead of him.
