    An Ideal World

In an ideal world with all of the new rules this season we would need 3 umpires in the back line 3 in the forward to police the push in the back rule.Another boundery umpire to pick up when the other is unsighted. No padding above 2 meters on the goalposts. In an ideal world

    plus a video umpire.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Video umpires are only old burnt out umpires who cant run anymore.Video replays waste time and only get the crowd angry .They make as many mistakes as ground umpires only they take longer.I watch the Rugby Leauge and Union replays and they are a waste of time and incredibly boring,as with cricket.

How wonderful - and Satchmo or Sam Cooke singing the theme tune...

i agree that they are a total time waster, but if we had one, it would have given us the four points last saturday.

AFL is too free flowing for there to ever be a video umpire. At least in league and cricket there are natural stoppages in a game for decisions to be reviewed. I'm not quite sure how a video umpire could rule on contentious marks, free kicks or goal line decisions without disrupting the fast flowing nature of the game (especially now with the quick kick in rule etc).

I think we need full time umpires though.

I was as pissed off with the umpiring last weekend as the next person, but that is stretching things a bit. Firstly, the OOB would have to have been referred to the video umpire in the first place. One presumes you would not have a system whereby he just sits in a box and presses a button whenever he feels like over-ruling an onfield decision / non-decision.

And secondly, even after McVeigh scored the resulting goal, Sydney still scored two more themselves and came within a couple of mm of foam thickness to scoring another. Had the McPhee kick been pulled back, who knows what would have eventuated for the rest of the game. It is not as if it was the last scoring shot of the afternoon to put the Bombers in front.

                    ok, forget the video umpire.

how about a forum where the coaches/captains can complain about the biased umpiring without copping a $20k fine.

An ideal world where the umpires don't cheat, wouldn't that be better?
