    Fantastic game.

Umpiring was abysmal, but probably evened out.

Is Essendon the most precious team ever? in the final quater, there were two obvious in the back infringements from Essendon, both conveniently missed by the umpires, then golden boy hird falls over and an Eagle player places a hand in his back, and they pay it. That 20K was great value for money!!

The holding of Judd in the goal Square was pretty poor umpiring.
Then The bombers got 3 frees in a row to help get them out of trouble.
There was also another HITB which went against the Eagles, by Johnson. It was only a slight push but it was there in the eyes of the rules.

Were the West Coast fans booing at the umpires as well?

WC had plenty of favourable umpiring too and Essendon received some dud calls.

The umpires put the whistle away in the last quarter

west coast would be kicking themselves.

well, you win some and you lose some. they've had their fair share of close wins, this one just didnt happen for em.

                    good game though.

West Coast should've blown them away in the first quarter but squandered goal scoring opportunities and it was only a matter of time Llyod and Lucas would kick a bag-full between them and take the win at the end. Great play from Dustin Fletcher with about 3 seconds before the final siren.

The umpiring was pretty crap and there were controversial decisions given to both sides. The AFL better not hand the premiership on a silver platter to Hird in his "final" season.

Essendon are a much better team when Lloyd and Hird are playing. Lloyd took a couple of great marks last night - the one-hander in particular was a beauty.

I only watched the first half, falling asleep in front of it.

But I think I witnessed the worst HITB decision I've seen all year. First quarter. McVeigh and an Eagle (can't remember which one) standing together 10-20m out from the Eagles forward 50. Ball gets kicked forward by the Eagles and sails well over the heads of this pair. They were never remotely in the marking contest. But McVeigh lays a hand lightly on the back of the Eagle and gets a free against him.

If the umpies have now decided this rule means any touch of hands to the back of an opponent, anywhere on the ground, regardless of whether they're in any kind of contest, is a free kick, the game really is up the clackers.

Yep - I remember that one well. It is the best example of what a joke this new rule is.
