Once upon a time I didn't mind this paper. There was the usual emphasis on Bombers and Pies, but you could rely on them to give you the odd morsel to read about the Swans. However, they are becoming more and more parochial with each passing week. I visited West and South Australia a few years back and noticed how bad the coverage was for teams from other states and felt satisfaction that Victoria wasn't that bad. But I have changed my view.
The last two Saturdays there has been NO items regarding the Swans. Then after the match they serve up the most biased reporting.
Here is a comparison of the two teams using the exact words in last Saturday's article.
Sydney: winning ugly, stifling, lethargic, choke up the ball, Sydney's tactics...threatened to challenge the Round 8 nightmare between Hawthorn and St Kilda, Craig Bolton and Leo Barry.... did a reasonable job, margin should have been more to reflect Hawthorn's dominance, Sydney's negative game, that's how the Swans like it... blah blah.
On the other hand, Hawthorn: brilliant last month, refused to lie down, his conqueror....Trent Croad, midfield looked quicker and more dynamic, Hodge provided the toughness...clearly not 100 per cent, wanted to attack, blah blah.
I am sick of this drivel!! At least The Age gives credit where it is due. Trouble is the Herald-Sun keeps trumpeting their distribution figures and thumbs their noses at Swans supporters.
Yours in disgust, Swannymum...
