    Missing thread

I cant seem to find the thread about Bevan restricting Mcglynn to 13 possesions ?

despite the fact that the leading inside 50 delivery man in the comp was held ineffective ?

have i missed it in general AFL or the Sandpit ?

No, it just needed someone (like you) to start the thread.

McGlyn only got 11 possessions last night. Gun player, glad Bevo shut him down

Must be so hard for some people to give credit when its due.
McGlynn leads the Hawks for marks this season, has had several games with over 20 possessions, kicked 3 goals against Port in Round 10.

Bevan did a good job on him and played a reasonable game himself.

He isnt a star, and probably never will be, but he certainly did the job that was asked of him last week, and some other players could at least copy his level of commitment.

i disagree about the fact that bevo is not a "star". i think his nomination for all australian cemented his status as a premier defender. he is representative of the swans in general, i feel. undersized, often unheralded but seemingly uses this to advantage. just as the swans dont feature in premiership discussions until the pointy end of the season, going "under the radar" as it were, bevo does his job effectively without attracting too much attention. i'd prefer things to stay exactly that way! his blinder on nick "i'm a natural blonde" riewoldt in the prelim final in 05 was a standout, as it was a matchwinner that received not enough kudos.
otherwise, i agree with you completely

Geez - and I thought I was uninformed. Bevan and Craig Bolton - who'd know the difference???

OK I'll get sucked into this thread.

I wasn't aware that he played on McGlynn. I saw the replay and didn't notice Bevo towelling him up. He must have done an awful lot of blocking because he only had one tackle and about 7 possessions. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think Bevo was on the ground for more than 70% of the game and I thought McGlynn was a midfielder not forward pocket.

To say Bevo played a good game is being blindly loyal. I haven't got the stats but I am sure he was the 3rd lowest rated player we had. In the match thread I think I said he was OK mainly because he didn't make any obvious Bevo blunder. For the record he was very stiff to have the free on the goal line given against him. The replay is damning of the umpire.

I have no idea about Bevans game as I didn't get to see the game in any form at all *see numerous other rants re TV rights

I will say this though - Many players can shut down another player without gaining many stats, and this MUST be what Roos sees in and expects of Matthews.

I have no real preconception about Bevan.
When I see him play, he does an ok job - nothing flash, and no real flair.
But I could mention a few Swans players who were regarded as stars but gained that status by simply playing ok to well week in week out.

                    Dunkley
                    Luff
                    Kirk
                    etc
                    etc

There aren't many stars in AFL, most are just solid players.
Hopefully Bevan will be one too.

With the exception of a very few, most players only stay on the ground around 70% of the time under Roos rotation policy, especially 'run with taggers/midfielders'. Mcglynn plays midfield/wing/forward of the play and was the leading inside 50 delivery man in the league.

And not admitting when he has done a good job on an inform player is what then ?
