    It will be rushed!

Nah, i just don't see players like Dal Santo and Riewoldt as stars. To the fans, they're stars, like Nick Davis is to us, but not in the genuine sense. When did either of those players dominate consistently for a season or two? Even Hall, who's playing sooky la la's right now, has dominated an entire season more than once, that's what stars do.

In the past three seasons (2004-2006):

Gehrig has kicked 252 goals @ 3.8 per game. Plus 10 disposals and 5 marks per game.

Riewoldt 160 goals @ 2.5 per game. Plus 16 possessions and 9 marks per game.

          Compare that to:
Hall 232 goals @ 3.1 per game. 15 possessions and 8 marks per game.

MOL 137 goals @ 2.1 per game. 11 possessions and 5 marks per game.

DalSanto 21 possessions per game. 0.5 goals per game.

          Hayes 23 possessions per game.

Not many in the Swans compare.

Kosi 12 possessions, 6 marks, 1.4 goals and 8 hitouts per game.

All decent users of the ball, capable of turning games, and do not pick up a lot of cheap stats.

          Harvey - an obvious champion.

That's all well and good, but it doesn't give the important stats, like in that timeframe we have played in 2 GF's and won a premiership. What has St Kilda done?

              That misses the point!

Not in this instance NMW, i actually agree with GS14, those Stkilda stats are based around dominating displays against ordinary teams. St kilda are the classic 'flat track bully' belt poor teams, but get found out against strong teams.

You can build nice stats but win nothing doing that.

I thought the point of the AFL was to win premierships.

Those particular players are very good - arguably stars.

StKilda has a problem with its middle and lower tier - they cannot step up in high pressure games.

They generally have a problem with strength of will.

We win against them because we play a tough, high pressure, high intensity game. We bring them back to the field, shutting the game down, by doing this. If we don't, they will run over the top of us as they have superior skills.

                    That was the original point.

Yep... StKilda has probably more big names, but we have a btter team and work ethic. That's the difference. We don't have any passengers either. (Excepting maybe McVeigh at the moment )

Painting by numbers not as accurate as abstract.

I think stats show useful info there - that some StKilda players are standouts.

What the stats don't show is how they perform in big games, but that could easily be extracted.

What the stats in that case also don't show is how the team has performed - however they were never purported to show that, which was not the point of that particular discussion. In fact it was the antithesis of the discussion.
