    RWO Midseason report

Someone asked for one and so RWO has delivered. This is part 1 - more to follow later in the week.

I'm sure some of you will disagree with our assessments - some healthy debate more than welcome.

    On Kirk
    What's gone wrong?
Hard to find much to criticise. No doubt he will take some of the blame for the midfield being so flat against the Saints and Roos but he was far from the worst. Kicking skills haven't improved noticeably but is remarkably effective with what he has. As with most of the Sydney midfielders, a bigger contribution on the scoreboard would be most welcome.
Isn't he leading the comp in clangers?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

      On Davis
      What's gone wrong?
Question marks remain over his fitness. A foot injury kept him out for 3 weeks after Round 1 and he was 'rested' against the Bulldogs to prevent a recurrence of a hamstring injury. While never a high possession winner, Davis' average numbers have dropped to its lowest level since becoming a Swan, including a dog of a game against the Roos. For a player who plays the mainly in the forward line, he spends too much time warming the pine.
Davis averaged 8.7 disposals in 2004, similar idea of being injured most of the year and playing fairly close to the goals (producing a higher than normal goal average at nearly 2 per game, must like this season as well). Link

I should add, since it seems I am just complaining, I do think the report is good reading. Thanks for putting it together

Thanks for the feedback. I wrote that Davis blurb, and I sourced his stats from a book. I must have misread it, I'll check it when I'm home tonight.

Liz wrote Kirk's summary so you have to blame her for that. . I think I mentioned in Scott's stats thread that each FK against is counted as a clanger and Kirk having 22 against has inflated his clanger count.

Loved that Benny finally got the credit he deserves. He has been sensational so far this year.... Well done Ben.

Can't wait to see MCVeigh and Hall reports.

              What's gone right?

Has shown maturity that belies his 30 game resume, emerging to be a critical part of the Swans' back six. Along with the Irishman, his darting runs from halfback frequently prove to be the catalyst for a Swans goal. His kicking skills are exemplary, 14 goal assists proving how well he uses the ball. Despite possessing a flashy game, he's not afraid to get amongst the rough and tumble, 39 tackles placing him 5th in a team renowned for its tackling. On track to win the Dennis Carroll Award (most improved player).

              What's gone wrong?
Has sometimes found himself as the loose man in defence only to have the corresponding player on the opposition assert more influence. His defensive skills have yet to be fully tested, and he may have to deal with closer checking in Kennelly's absence. A few sloppy disposals crept into his game in rounds 10 and 11 - hopefully he can nip those in the bud when the team resumes against the Pies
What's gone right?,every bloody thing he is a super star. What dribble is this, theres nothing wrong with him and a few errors in judgement with his passes thats all.Any way its not his fault its the receivers fault for not reading the flight of the ball properly.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Eski is to Swantastic, what Davo is to Stella!

Slight exaggeration or a very low benchmark...

Right - so the latter then.

I agree, compared to his normal play anyway.

I bit my tongue and only highlighted the factual error, no point in me starting an argument on the subjective stuff as I am sure it would produce more rolling of eyes than thoughtful nodding of appreciation.
I never thought I'd say it, but I think el tastico may have it worse than me
