Transport information for those flying into Sydney

    From today's Sydney member update:

Transport information for those flying into Sydney

If you are flying into Sydney for the match, please remember buses will replace trains on the Airport & East Hills Line due to trackwork. Replacement bus services will operate from the Domestic Airport where you can catch one of the direct services running to Olympic Park.

Trackwork is also taking place on the South and Southern Highlands lines.

CityRail advises supporters plan their journey ahead of travelling and allow extra travel time. Click on the link below for details on special train services operating for the event and trackwork information including alternative travel arrangements and bus timetables.

For further event and public transport information visit www.131500.info call the Transport Infoline on 131 500 and press 3 for Events.

Unfortunately, if you're coming from a city that has a functional public transport system, you are going to be bitterly disappointed in Sydney.

But here's hoping at least the Swans win!

I love the fact that from 2 days after the draw was released Virgin was having flights sold out for this Friday and Saturday from Melbourne to Sydney - that would say to me that there was something big happening for the weekend and that it might be an idea to have the Airport line in particular up and running because of lots of passengers needing transport. But no, good old Cityrail closes that line for trackwork... Gotta love the brains trust up there!

I just checked the Virgin website and there are no sold out flights for this Sat and only a few cheap seats sold out for Friday night during the nromal business rush.

2 days after the draw was confirmed there were about 6 flights on the Friday totally sold out and no cheap flights available on the Saturday at all. They probably released extra seats later but for several flights to sell out at that stage (i.e. 7 months before the time) that quickly, it suggests there's something big on (which there is with so many bloody Pies supporters going up, as well as our supporters in the mix!) - they had indicators like that 6 or 7 months ago and still scheduled trackwork... *rolls eyes*

yeh but don't forget if the trackwork is improving the safety of the train work, that is a hundred times more important than the ability to get to Olympic Park by train from the airport. Its inconvenient but not impossible, and they run buses from locations all along the Southern and East Hills lines on match days in any case.

Everyone complains about trackwork but it has to be done for the safety of commuters.

The trackwork is scheduled 12months in advance, least they aren't doing it on the Olympic Park line
