I like tempura footyHe had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

Let's think about it then. Demetriou comes out and says that we play "ugly" and that we will never be a force with that style of play - Unfortunately for him he had to eat his words and apologise upon the Swans winning the Grand Final.
This would tell me that the AFL had their eye on our shut down tactics/tempo football way back in early 2005. They and the whole football world continuously say that the Swans play "ugly" football which is detrimental to fans' enjoyment of the game as a spectacle! So how do they STOP TEMPO football (initiated by the Swans and our prime tactic), they quicken up the game! - with quicker play on rules which restricts flooding and tires out players that have to run back to support their backmen alot quicker than normal.
On the Hall issue - Do you disagree that Hall took alot of marks by using his strength - and hands et al? Therefore he is naturally restricted and frustrated with the new in the back rule. They have restricted his strength and he unfortunately hasn't worked a way around the problem.
I don't think i am being paranoid about us against them - but simply by analysing recent changes and their resultant effects on our game style - Simply these two changes don't seem to affect anyone as much as the Swans and restricts our style, or in the football World's eyes "negative gamestyle!"
I believe we are lead by an intelligent coaching roster and as such given time and importantly a positive approach by the players we shall once again become competitive. Although, I must admit our players seem to be disinterested at the moment and can't string together any semblance of form for even one continuous month.
guys like hall and jonathan brown will find it hard with the rule. it's a gay rule that helps the backmen.
i also believe the afl rules committee had the swans style of play in mind when speeding things up. they didnt want the game becoming full of tackling and low scoring defensive stuff.
Everyone loves a shootout and it's entertaining goal-goal stuff but sometimes the hard close matches are a good spectacle too.
The thing I hated about our tempo style was our ability to not put sides to the cleaners when in front. We have over done it sometimes by playing keepings off too much. Now the other teams are onto us, the match vs geelong will show a different type of style bred form our own.
Their defence is one of the best in the league but you watch the way they stream forward and kick long and direct through the corridor. it's the best way.
the rest of the afl will catch up to you very quickly so you've only got 2-3 yrs to make hay. Considering we've made 3 of the last 4 prelim finals and missed one finals series since 1996 this could well be our big wake up call.
Further to this, I think the hands in the back rule should go. They should make all ball ups "throw ups" to speed the stoppages and make it a "play on" situation if you kick backwards in defence(although im not sure how they would apply this rule.Last edited by Hazcam; 29 June 2007, 04:01 PM.Comment

well, they're not going to come right out and say that, are they?
funny how the swans are the only ones referred to (in the media and by theo andrew) as playing ugly or unattractive football (doesn't matter what you want to call it).
who would have thought that the umpires had a list of protected players? or that they would have admitted to having one?
of course the new rules were meant to slow us down. you're very naive if you believe otherwise.Comment

The problem I have with this is that it is usually (not always) a symptom of something else, the opposition flooding. You stop the flooding, you stop the need or want to kick backwards or sideways. I don't have any suggestions as to how to stop the flooding though.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

for me, i love the way they've been playing. the last few years have been edge-of-the-seat footy. after spending so many years watching mediocre, it's been exciting.
admittedly, the stoppages can get a bit tedious at times, but all-in-all, the price of my membership has been well worth it.Comment

Is a tight hard fought contest not a show piece? Particularly when you've had (arguabley) the two strongest AFL clubs of the last 2, 3 or four years seperated by a margin of no greater than 10 points at games end and a total of about 25 points across 8 games including two grand finals??
Bugger me... the way AFL promotes the crap out of such contests, you'd think that it's a big game worth watching!!Comment

I'd say the opposition are at fault for not picking up their man,and i would be rapt we won the game and great skill to too. When other teams chip it around against us i yell out our players to flecking man up.Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Obviously no one here actually likes the game of football - just winning, no matter what game they're watching.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
