I watched Dempster closely yesterday and he doesn't seem to be aware of his surroundings. He got caught a few times yesterday. He also goes down or into packs with his head down.He needs to work on these issues. On the other hand,he is a beautiful kick of the ball when he gets it.

Seems after every game there's a thread about Dempster. Either that he's a future champion or he's a hack. I for one think this is one guy that has alot to offer.
Dempster ThreadsThe eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face. -
if we used him properley and he d use that kick of his more often without hesitation he d be a gun. he seems to be looking around for options more often than not instead of backing himself. he has pace and a boot which not many of our players dont have.Comment

I got the sense that he was playing a bit differently yesterday, trying few things, attempting to be a bit more attacking. I liked the way he took the contested mark at 50m then wen back and took a shot. He missed, but then he Davis and Malceski are probably the only three guys in our team who would have made the distance.
His main failing is that he doesn't get enough of the ball. I don't know why, but I suspect it is partly to do with the role he has been playing and that at present, he is not a great reader of the play. This will hopefully improve with time.
Having said all that, he's never going to be a world beater, but has the potential to be a very good average player. He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

I will say I was one who made a big statement early in the season that he was a future leader. On what he has done this year I am now prepared to retract that.
Like others I dont know why it is he doesn't get much of the footy. Against Hawthorn he played on the wing and when he got the footy he used it well, but just didn't get it much. Played in 2 GF's so you would hope he would start to step up and play a big part in games, but sadly not looking that way.Comment

I think he had a couple of nice touches mixed with a couple of bad clangers Im not sure where he played as a junior does anyone know?
I would like to see him play up forward closer to goal - he has a good grab and great kick and seems to prefer the ball coming to him. I though he may have been tried in a FP or even at FF yesterday.
I say up forward because he has shown he can take a strong contested mark somethink we have been lacking this season, can I get anyone else to jump on the "play Dempster close to goal" Bandwagon???

He does seem a fraction slow in decision making and balancing himself.
I also find it frustrating that he seems to have little impact in most games.
But, he still looks like he has potential and I am hoping he will still improve greatly. He's played 49 games so far and I think next year will be a watershed year for him.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

As I mentioned on another thread, this seems to have a lot to do with talk. A lot of players cannot be aware of what is coming behind them and rely on their teammates to tell them. The amount of times we get run down, not just Dempster would suggest that the team are not communicating efficiently. I mentioned this in more detail on the match day thread.
Maybe the Irishman's absence in the back half takes away the real leadership of that zone. Leo seems to be playing OK but I dont know that his erratic and clearly individual style is that of a true leader. Most of the talking I suspect goes on around the midfield handpassing and sounds like "gimmee, gimmee, gimmee.
That handpass of Leo's you would expect would have been immediately followed by "your hot", but clearly not. I just dont get it when Leo has the footy running through half back that he doesn't look for a long option, then stops, props and gets himself in trouble then handpasses to a player in a worse position. He is great at winning the footy, I just wish he would grace us with some dashing long kicks in the twighlight of his career.Comment

When you get tackled holding the ball, its the fault of YOUR TEAM MATES for not talking to you.
The most efficient use of vision and mental powers for the ball carrier is to look up field and spot targets. Your team mates should be give clear loud instructions on any immediate threats or not. "Your Hot" ring a bell.
In the classic case last weekend of dempster being caught 5m out, you could see Leo Barry in the same TV shot, and he was just watching it all unfold, mouth closed.Comment

Having set his team-mate up for a fall. I couldn't believe it and neither could Paul Roos! I think he understated it when he said, "Leo should have taken it through." Talk about stating the obvious.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment
