Having watched Laidlaw play his first game at Geelong, I really think it is time that Roos and the match committee have the guts to give a few more a game.
Believe me, we have talent in the Young Guns but because the Swannies have been on such a high for 3 years, they have suffered and are not getting a look in.
I'm sure Laidlaw will continue to improve now that he has been given a go but we all know that the Match Comittee will send him back and he will become stagnant, the same as Grundy and Moore have become. Back will come Schneider who is talented but cannot give 100 minutes a game and the Swannies will be the losers.
We have so many similar negative players in the seniors and aren't nurturing and rewarding the young talent in Young Guns.
We will lose another 3-6 at the end of this year as they become totally disillusioned.
I would like to see Thornton, Brabazon, Phillips, Laidlaw, Moore and Grundy at least given some quality exposure in the seniors.
Watching players like Matthews and in particular McVeigh on Saturday, surely some of our younger guns deserve a go.
Otherwise, we will not give this talent any inspiration for their future. How will we know hoe good this talent is if we don't give them a go. Surely they can't do any worse than some of the pretenders we have playing now.
There is nowhere to hide once you get out onto the paddock. Just watch McVeigh, he simply has not got what it takes.
Without putting some pressure on the senior players, the Match Committee will ensure we miss the 8. Its as simple as that.
