Roo's said...."I am expecting him to play based on the discussion we had last week, but I haven't had any update as to how his feeling, so we will have to wait and see," Roos said. Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

yeah yeah yeah , what positional
tired of that tune roosy, i ll help you with the team
OUTS : McVeigh, Mathews, maybe Bevan....but he has some purpose at times
INS: if fit Kennely , Hall , LRT or Schneider or some younger players to debut.Comment

B. Matthews, 1 kick, 3 handballs, 1 mark and beaten countless times one on one. I'd almost go as far as saying with he might well have been the difference in winning and losing in the second half on Sat.
Surely it's his time now. If he plays this week................ I don't knowComment

As I've posted elsewhere, none of the reserves appeal in back half roles. The uselessness of Mathews and Bevan emphasise why a fit Crouch is so important to our side. The only other alternative for a small back half player is Schneider - hasn't he done a good job at this in the past? At least he would show some flair and creativity when he wins the ball - something totally lacking with bumble Mathews and fumble Bevan.Pay peanuts get monkeysComment

Agree Roy Boy, until Crouch is fit then both/either of Bevan and Matthews will continue to play.
As for changes this week, I would like us to retain both Schmidt & Laidlaw and introduce one other newbie to the team such as Thornton if Kennelly is not ready to play.
Along with LRT, Scheinder and Hall that makes four changes to the side.
Fremantle are tall up forward so a tall for a small will be in order especially in defence to help Barry & Richards cope with Pav, Tarrant and Mundy. C Bolton will be needed for a massive job on Farmer who could explode and beat us off his own boot.
So it's Hall for Vogels, Scheinder for McVeigh, LRT for Bevan and Thornton for Dempster.
For the future, Crouch replaces Matthews and one of the newbies is to be replaced by Kennelly.

Didn't Roos say there would be a lot of changes last week too?
And didn't say he thought there was a lot of improvement this week?Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

If he's true to his word, then the way it's unfolding is the way to do it. Dump just one (at most two) 'automatic selection' dudes, and bring in inexperienced youngsters on a slow drip feed. If the experienced guy who got dropped comes out firing in the 2s (as Schneider did), then someone else has to get the chop to let him come back.
If the experienced guy dropped to let Schneider come back isn't one of a couple of predictable whipping boys, then some people get suddenly all sentimental with 'why him? He's no worse than a dozen others.' Which is just the point.Comment

Gotta keep in mind there were some serious ducks and drakes with the side last week. I do wonder if all that shenanigens is worth it at the end of the day. Not much point putting any faith on Thursdays side.
And for those unloading on Bevan, I reckon he's been pretty serviceable last 3 or 4 weeks. I didn't agree with his selection on form initially but over the last month he's been far from the worst, getting a reasonable amount of it and using it pretty well, in addition to providing that hard body and regularly beating an opponent one on one. Deserves his spot at the momentLast edited by floppinab; 3 July 2007, 10:03 AM.Comment
