FFS, get out of bed earlier...

My biggest gripe of posters on this site is 95% of posters have views and opinions on who should be dropped, fair enough, but have equally strong views on who should be promoted.

But only 5% of posters, if that, actually bother to get their backsides to the 2's and watch and support!!!

Melbourne based fans have an absolutely valid excuse, but Sydney based fans have none. Threads about 'Let's meet up for a drink' or 'let's have a kick to kick at the Lakeside Oval' before the game give me the shts no end. FFS, go and support the 2's and save yourself the embarrassment of statements like "Why don't they promote Jesse White?" or "Why hasn't DOK got a run?"

I've been turning up for the 2's for as long as I can remember. In fact in the dark days of the early 90's, you could be forgiven for going home at the start of the seniors. Whilst we were losing 26 straight, our 2's were fighting it out for the semi's year in year out under Dennis Carroll.

This weekend we play Belconnen who have been in the past 6 GF's straight. Whilst the Swans have got the choccies the past few years, Belconnen were the collossus of the ACT. In the early days of the Swans playing in Canberra, we couldn't get near them, the bigger more mature bodies would give our young rookies and top-up players an awful caning. They currently lie second (8-2) and will provide some sort of a test.

Next weekend before the Carlton game we play Eastlakes who are currently 8-3 and third. Again, although we will probably win comfortably, it's unlikely to be a 20 goal walk in the park.

So even though we currently all lament the unevenness of the Canberra competition, the next 2 weeks will provide some sort of test so......

......FFS, get out of bed earlier !!!

That's a great post - I hope we see a few more people getting along and providing some views of the players.

Some of us do go to the reserves and some of us go to Canberra to watch them play. Some of us have very strong opinions about who should be considered for promotion.

Some of us also choose not to post on that topic, or choose not to wear it as a badge of honour. Are people not "real fans" if they can't get to ressies games?

You are obviously in the 5% of RWOers who do go to the ressies, that BBB wasn't having a go at.

So why not share your opinion on the Reserves players?

A lot of posters would be very interested to hear others perspectives on the young crop of players.

There is a difference betweeen asking "how is DOK going" and posting "Why on earth do they keep picking Grundy when White was so hot in a pre-season game". I think that is what BBB is referring to.

And in terms of knowing how the reserves players go, ORB provides an extensive match report of almost every home reserves game and the odd Canberra one and this is usually supplemented by a few comments by other posters. Ugg and I (with a little input again from ORB) provided you with a moderately detailed summary of their performances in the first half of the season as part 3 of the 'mid-season review'. So there's a lot of information already published on RWO that helps to answer the question of how individual players are going.

As Scott suggested, it would also be great to hear additional comments from others who go to the reserves. These could easily be provided in the reserves match review thread (as people like Ugg and BBB often do) or in the thread we normally have about the results of the game before the report is published.

BBB, I think you have to keep in mind that not everyone has 6+ hours to spare on a match day to watch both the reserves and the seniors. I'll have to admit my initial enthusiasm at watching the reserves has dwindled this season and it has to do with the lack of a real contest week in week out.

Hear, hear. I enjoy reading the reserves match reports and try to catch the second half of games when I can. But it's a gross overstatement to suggest those who don't watch reserves are calling for the like of DOK to be promoted - most of us a bit more informed and realists than that.

But I'm glad for you that you consider yourself a "real fan" BBB. Why people like yourself continually need to position themselves as greater fans than the next supporter is very strange indeed. I hope it makes you feel better.

The 1pm early starts for the seniors really does conspire against my attending the reserves games....

By the time of rolled out of bed at ten, sipped my latte and consumed my eggs benedict, it's main game time...

I always get to the ground in time to see at least the second half of the reserves game. I watch intently and look forward to the RWO review each week. The thing is, I never feel I have anything to add to your comments, you guys are so much more knowledgeable about these things than I. All I could add would be a "Yes, I totally agree with everything you said" post and I don't think that would add to much to the review.

I struggle to see how that attack was warranted, in the original post or any others I have posted here. I'd be interested to know where I have continually positioned myself as a greater fan.

If my assertion that fans who would prefer to meet up for a pre-game drink at 'The Brewery' rather than watch the 2's playing 200 metres away, where they can also meet up for a drink if that floats their boat, then I guess I'm guilty of considering myself a greater fan of the club then them.

The gist of the OP remains, everybody should try and make an effort to get to the ground early this week and next as the games are against the best opposition that can be put up against us at the present time.

BBB you have to remember that a lot of people have commitments on Saturday mornings, like work, kids sports etc etc,but you are right it wouldn't be hard to get to a magoo's game once in a while if you are from Sydney. My self i like getting to the ground at least 1.5/2 hours before the bounce of the seniors but i find it difficult because Mrs Swantastic and the little swantastic's dont want to go that early.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

I think BBB's main point was not that 'everyone should go and if they don't they're not real supporters'. Rather that people who do have time on Saturday mornings to do things like meet up for a drink should instead sometimes come down to see the reserves play. I don't think it was a comment against people who have over real commitments on Saturday morning.
