With the success of tagh kennelly , you would have thought...

That the Bloods would have gone straight back to the Irish for another dip into their Gaelic waters in the endless search for more and more talented footballing cattle !!

But instead they let Carlton and the Wobbles get the wood on them with the likes of Setanta O?hAilpin and Martin Clarke respectively.

    I wonder why ???

While there is plenty of talent in Ireland, the facts are that it's expensive to either send over a recruiter or put a local on a retainer to identify the talent and despite some success it still is the biggest recruitment long shot of them all.

I would think you will find that the club has put alot more effort into our exclusive NSW rookie options and Sydney scholarship progam since the experiement with Kennelly.

Melbourne must feel quite crap they let Kennelly slip to the swans when they had Stynes all those years ago. Having Kennelly on our list doesn't neccessarily mean we're entitled to every other Irishman who wants to play our game.

Some other clubs have been quite agressive in the continued exploration of the Irish talent pool, from what I hear Brisbane especially.

I don't think it would be that expensive, I think that is just an excuse from a satiated fan who doen't really care to know.

I think the Bloods could be a little more aggresive in their persuing future Irish stars.

Perhaps we have been spoilt by the success of Kennelly, but I have to agree with general in that I have been wondering for some time why we haven't unearthed any further potential recruits from Ireland, or in fact if we still have any presence there.

Considering potential recruits would look up to Kennelly and love the opportunity to play at the same club that he does, I feel that the Swans may be letting an opportunity slip. Look at how well Clarke played against us!

We did at one stage 2003??? but he went back home..which is fair enough. I think Kennelly's most amazing achievement has been the ability to beat the homesickness....it is a fair cow of an intangible.

One of the better posts I can remember on this forum spoke about the footy karma gods and how they had blessed us with so many freakish recruits from other codes (Tadhg, LRT, Goodes, Bevan) as well as other "good news" stories like Kirk & Bucky, and that generally it would be wrong to test footy karma by going to the well too much.

I'm not actually sure whether footy karma exists but I think the point that yyou can only have so many "experiments" on your list at one time is a legitimate one. Still, maybe it's time to go back to the well?

By all means look at Ireland, but what about South Africa? A bit of talent there, plus hunger. And they already know how to tackle.

Well the Swans may have started a modernrevival, but the other clubs have certainly got the jump on the Swans now for younger Irish players.
