    Geelong Juggernaut

After watching the Cats kennel the toothless doggies last night, they seem like September favourites at this stage.

Very exciting to watch and if they end up in the GF against the West Coast Snorters, I'll be right behind the Cats.

Geelong fans should be very excited about them doing a Lions and being the team to beat in the next 5 years.

If only we could find a Hawkins, couple of Abletts etc. The key is that they are all young whereas our list is sadly aging.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

While I'm certainly taking nothing away from the Cats, they are a wonderful footy team and were simply stunning last night, I remember having those same thoughts on the Crows about this time last year.

A lot depends on injuries - Crows have been unlucky in the past, Swans have been lucky. Makes all the difference.

This year, I really don't care who wins the premiership, as long as it's not West Coke.

Injury is the only thing that can stop the Cats IMO.

They are certainly looking the goods this year and ones suspects only injuries will stop them.

But in recent years we have seen periods of seasons when St Kilda, West Coast and Adelaide all looked unbeatable. For various reasons, none won the premiership in those years and certainly none has then gone on to become clearly the team to beat for 5 years.

The gap between the first 14 clubs is very very small - and even Melbourne are pretty close to, list wise. Only Carlton and Richmond look some way off the pace at the moment in terms of having a list that can do some damage over a season. With Hawthorn and the Pies both having very young teams on the rise. Brisbane and Port making advances rapidly, and the ongoing presence of professional, well-drilled teams like Adelaide and the Swannies (who one suspects will always be competitive, even on their "down turns"), it's impossible to label any team as one likely to dominate for any length of time.

The Cats are very good and it will take a great team to beat them this year. There is no reason why that won't be Sydney, West Coast or Adelaide at the end of September. Finals pressure is very different to the home and away season and the Swans and Eagles in particular have been there before.

After last season everyone was saying West Coast were the next Brisbane, yet a few injuries and suspensions and suddenly they look as mortal like every other side. I doubt we'll see another side like Brisbane in the next few decades as the competition is too even and prolonged success is extremely hard to maintain.

I have to admit, if it's a Cats vs Eagles GF i'll be supporting the Eagles. After going to Geelong a few weeks back i have found a hatred for them i didn't think possible.

I'll be supporting Geelong as my second team this year.

If the Swans don't make it, then I'll be hoping for a Cats-Pies GF. Would be a massive game and I hope Collingwood go down by a point

Cats vs. Hawks for me, Gary Ablett to win the Norm Smith (with his Brownlow) but this time the Cats give the Hawks an absolute flogging.

Did you ever think the Geelong supporters felt the same way about us after they lost the semi final in 2005? Swans supporters were hardly shrinking violets at the time.

For the first time in years they have got a sniff of the big prize. I hope that they can go all the way (coz I cant see the Swans getting close on current form)

Geelong have played so well this year and have been lucky so far with injuries - just like we were in 2005. If any team deserves it this year it Geelong. They have played consistent footy and despite the so called "experts" tipping that the Doggies were the team to knock them off their perch on Friday night - the Cats were amazing to watch. They have a good list who are really playing as a team. Sure they have junior God, but he is a team player and I reckon they might just do it.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

at the risk of sounding like an idiot, what inspired the unthinkable-hatred for geelong? were the supporters all just a bunch of arrogant d***s?

Geelong have had a lot of bad luck in finals since they last won a premiership.

Sine their last flag, they have lost 5 Grand Finals, and they finished on top of the ladder twice. Interestingly, this description also fitted the Swans until the 2005 premiership.

If the Swans are not fortunate enough to make the Grand Final this year, I hope Geelong take the spoils this year. The town needs a boost with the Ford engine plant slated for closure in 2010.

I have greatly enjoyed watching Geelong this year. Their young players have really stood up and players like Chapman and Ling have found a niche and are having ripper years. Funnily enough,as good as they are going there are a lot of players on that list that I dont rate at all.... Ottens being the prime example.

I would really enjoy seeing them win the flag though if we dont have a chance which is seemingly the case with the way we are going. The last thing I want to see is Cousins up on that premiership dias that is for sure!
