Turned it off after the first quarter, sounded like Lane was getting off every time he mentioned Cousins (at the most every 5 seconds)

If he'd been coming back from a serious injury or illness, then the hero status he had last night would have been totally justified.
But a self-induced drug stint? FFS.

It wasnt just limited to the first half and Triple M were just as bad. Although as I had texted to some Tim Lane would have had the post coital cigarette he had so many orgasmic experiences watching Cousins. No doubt he played well (thats urks me just to say that) and the Swans were rather ordinary -But I find the hole turning him into some kind of hero worrying. No one is perfect and yes we have all made mistakes in our lives, but my gut feeling is that he will do it all again and again all will be forgiven, I do hope that I'm wrong, but it all just doesnt sit right. The adulation that has come from this may have the opposite effect. I also thought that Chick seemed more high on life than usual. But Lane banging on that he would get all the brownlow votes just did it for me. But then it was pure sporting theatre and the media went along for the ride. The prodigal son returns, saves the day, all is good with the West Coast world but there is something that still isnt quite right.

The worst moment came when he started comparing the occasion to Peter Hudson returning from injury.

I'm sorry, what was Ben's injury? Knee reconstruction? Cancer? Rama and Jason McCartney are heroes - Ben is not.

How right you are. I remember that too - and I thought what a load of bull @@@@ - but hey West Coast have the best spin doctors in the business and the media fell for it.

Actually this morning on Sunrise, Simon Reeve said that it was great for Everitt to say positive things about Cousins return and that he was playing his come back game at home. But Melbourne crowds wont be so charitable. I think he's right with that comment. Lets face it as there was probably only about 30 Swans supporters in the crowd all their jeering of him would have been lost in the eather. Interesting to see if they take Cousins interstate, his fragile mental state may not be up to going from total adulation to absolute contempt when in Melbourne.

I think Benny will be falling off the wagon any time now. When he plays away from home and realises that the rest of the AFL supporters don't regard him as anything but a junkie. The commentators were rubbish!!!

It was at about that point that I turned it off.

Its well known that Tim Lane cannot say anything infavour of Sydney, but his adulation of cousins last night was pathetic.

Cousins, Kerr, Fletcherr and others in the side are nothing short of illegal substance abusers and should be recognised as such. Not some sort of heros.

I was a the Danish club just wishing they had a radio to put on instead because I was so ready to puke from the Cousins crap spewing forth! Yeah he did play a great game (I won't deny him that even though I have no respect for him at all), but to hold him up on such a pedestal for having come back from a drug addiction - sorry but that does not cut it for me when it comes to choosing people to admire and applaud for courage and strength in adversity. As has been mentioned, Ramanauskas, McCartney - THEY are the ones who should be held in such high regard because the things they overcame, and to have Cousins placed onto virtually the same level for what he's "overcome" - that's an insult.

Did i hear right that they also compared his return to the Woods' Greening some years ago...Greening got clocked behind the play, was out for almost a year and only played a few games on return..never the same again and many said he was heading to be the Hird of his time...And he was cold cocked..
Cousins is a disgrace to his team, not a returning hero. Even his super game last night and every game he ever plays in the future (AND the past, esp the past) will be regarded as doubtful. What was the name of the canadian sprinter? Ben Johnson...don't call your kid Ben!

The most sickening thing, apart from Huddo's constant raving on about Ben every 30 seconds, was the banner that Eagles supporter held up saying words to the effect of "It is marvellous what you have overcome". I'm going to move to Perth get addicted to crystal meth and demand the same adulation.

I suppose we'll never know how we'd react if the boot was on the other footy and it was Barry Hall or Adam Goodes who had the problem. But I doubt we'd have been as sickening as what we all had to put up with last night.

Exactly. Ramanauskas = RESPECT. Jason McCartney = more respect. Ben Cousin = failed role model who gets away with things scott free because of his almost regal position in Perth as a player with West Coast.

Adelaide got fined for Simon Goodwin gambling. What did West Coast get for all this, diddly squat?

If it had been a Swans player, I'd expect the same adulation from many of the Swans supporters...

What irks me the most is the way the Weagles fan blow so much smoke up his backside, treat him like a hero and justify it by saying he never tested positive or said he was taking drugs!!

Give me a break. Why else would you spend a month or so in DRUG re-hab if you werent on something.
