And kicked a goal, and laid some good tackles. His work around stoppages is really important too.

He was EASILY better than Bevan and Ablett.

Better than Ablett. Not far behind J Bolton.

For a bloke trying to make a name for himself in AFL he needs to be doing more than that. I'll tell you now Jude won't be dropped before Schmidt on the basis of Saturday night's game - & nor should he be.

If you're a fringe player being "not the worst" is hardly career enhancing.

He's performed better than J Bolton this year and probably better than Ablett. Gets less game time too.

Ablett is an interesting one. He came into the season with a back related hamstring problem and had less than a satisfactory pre season, missed games with it and his form suggests he is still carrying that injury.

Someone (elsewhere in internet-space) reported that both Schneider and Ablett were suffering from the flu at the weekend. No idea of the accuracy of that statement but I know the person who reported it has a close friendship with one of the players.

If true, it might explain why both had pretty poor games. Maybe at least one should have been replaced but it is unlikely that Flipper in instead would have made much of a difference.

Apparently Ablett had the flu. Read that Roos said he shouldn't have played.

The first change this week should be LRT for Bevan. We desperately need a tall defender and Bevan doesn't look like he fits. In the last game I saw a couple of times when Bevan was free, having gotten a 10 metre break on his man only to be passed up for a kick to a marking contest. The one that I have in mind involved Malceski looking directly at an easy 40 metre kick to Bevan but decided to kick to a contest instead. I imagine Malceski thinking: If he does take the mark, then what ? He'll only kick it back to me and I'll have to kick to a contest anyway. The other players don't trust Bevan to do something positive with the ball.

They definitely should not drop Schmidt. He has kicked some very quick thinking and skilful goals this year. He's got great footy instincts.

Monty should come in too. The unfit ones should be rested. We need a fit squad for the last 4 rounds. The next 2 rounds are a good opportunity to see a bit more of the fringe players: Vogels, Grundy, Laidlaw and Moore.

If they're suffering from flu why play them? Other teams leave players out in those circumstances. Swans' selection is quite bizarre at times.

If they only came down with it late on Friday or even on Saturday, maybe hands were tied. Rushing a youngster with practically no experience over to Perth with inadequate time to prepare may have been a worse option than playing the pair. Had Phillips played instead of Schneider he might have snared the goal goal or two - but Schneider managed that anyway. It is hard to see him being more effective than Ablett in tagging a Kerr or Cousins.

Arguably they should have taken a 4th player over to Perth when the rest of the team travelled given the distance and the fact that two named players were already in serious doubt. But then you have to weigh that up against the likelihood of a couple of players not getting a game - and it looks like already no-one sat out of the reserves this week, with injuries to Doyle and - by the looks of it DOK - adding to three travelling emergencies.

it was on one of the articles on the swans website that ablett and schneider had the "sniffles" and missed the swim session in perth. i caught some footage of it on sports tonight as well, the boys looked like the were freezing

i think its strange that they played both of them, i guess it would depend on how sick they were. i know that when i have the flu, i can barely get out of bed... let alone run around for 2 hours

Well, that's better. I feel like this crazy, mixed-up universe makes some sense, now that the Donk is injured again.

Think of this, naysayers: if the Donk is delisted, how will we ever know if he's injured? Is anyone going to commit the time and energy to maintain a 'How is Stephen Doyle's Health This Week?' web page? No, I thought not.

Hey whats happened to Keiran Jack and Simon Phillips?
They should be given a run ahead of Amon.

I would of liked to have seen Phillips get a run on Saturday night, I thought he might of proved useful as a small forward at Subiaco. But not to be. Not sure what has happened to him or jack though!

Jack's still around and playing consistently well in the reserves. He makes the "best" list pretty much every week.

But he's back on the rookie list now that LRT's returned and so can't play again this year unless someone goes down with a season ending injury in the next 10 days. (Must be before round 18 to elevate a rookie.)
