Eagles in premiership form

If this is how WCE will play when they've got their gear together then lookout Geelong and Kangaroos and any other contenders.

Although the cats are odd on favourites and as much as I want our bloods to win another comp, the way west coke illegirls play when on song is just irresistable. It is a deadset star studded unit and when all healthy and in form they really should be unbeatable.

It's a credit to Sydney that we can restrict sides like this to under 90-100 points. Look at these names it's a rolls royce team:

lynch, cox, cousins, judd, kerr, selwood, stenglein, hunter, staker, embley, fletcher, wirrapunda, hansen, lecras, seaby.... the list goes on and on.

I guess that's why swans v eagles games are so enthralling because it's the white collars vs the equally effective and at times very dour blue collar swans. Of course we've got some superstars in hall, goodes etc but the big names of WCE out number us 5 fold.

Maybe Roosy should take some advice from Worsfold and co to form a list like this? Because if they get their @@@@ together in the finals then I don't see even Geelong stopping them.

I was at the game tonight and they were good but I'd love to see how they go against a better quality opposition than what the Dogs were tonight. All the Eagles had to do was run men to space, allow the Dogs to attempt their posession footy style of play and then wait for them to stuff it up. So many times from turnovers the Eagles scored and scored quickly. Against a higher class of opposition, who don't turn it over at the first sign of pressure, it'll be interesting to see how they really go.

Makes me glad we didn't just roll over last weekend though.

I was at the game tonight and they were good but I'd love to see how they go against a better quality opposition than what the Dogs were tonight. All the Eagles had to do was run men to space, allow the Dogs to attempt their posession footy style of play and then wait for them to stuff it up. So many times from turnovers the Eagles scored and scored quickly. Against a higher class of opposition, who don't turn it over at the first sign of pressure, it'll be interesting to see how they really go.

Makes me glad we didn't just roll over last weekend though.

Surely it was the Eagles greatness that made the Dogs look so insipid

lol thats about the first time and the only time I think Ive ever seen lynch mentioned as one of WCE's superstars. Sure he kicked 5 goals last night but the Dogs didnt exactly put up a great resistance. IMO he is in a group of about the 5 worst players forwards in the comp. Kicks a few goals here and there but with a midfield like they have pinging the ball in I think most people would manage to kick a bag most weeks, especially when the opposition is on the back.

They are going to be hard to beat. Only team that can stop them is Geelong imo. I can't believe that people think the Rooboys can win the flag- Ill run through civic wearing only roos scarf if they win the flag! They will roll over big time comes finals time imo. But WCE do look hard to beat. Not invincible though I feel they are far from that and it I think Geelong will give them a very big run for their money. Last night they simply had full control of the game. In matches where they cant dictate terms (Game against the Lions a few weeks ago was the perfect example- even though they were missing plenty of stars) they look much more beatable.

I was sitting next to SRFE last night. I swear I do NOT want to watch another Doggies game live again this year. They are just clueless at times. Fumbling the ball when they have it, kicking willy nilly into the forward line, not marking up in defence. Eade has seriously lost the plot in the way he coaches them I swear. Because as Geelong and now the Eagles proved, top teams will tear them to shreds.

It just makes you show how much of a good fighting team we still are when we can go to Subi and nearly topple them. Yet teams like the hapless Dogs get hammered by them at their own home ground.

Playing the Dogs at the moment is NOT a true example of how your team is going. As at the moment they are among the easiest teams in the league to roll over.

The thing I dislike about Lynch is that by taking his glove off and having a set shot all the time he is showing himself to be a 'me-first' rather than team first footballer. Personally I like players in the inside 50 to have a ping. But modern day footy is about finding a player further downfield in a better position than you. By going through his glove ritual players on the defending team know they can relax and not mark their men.

One think I have to say about the Illeagles at the moment is the emergence of Brett Staker as a key forward. He was great against us & was just as good against the Dogs. He is a great overhead mark yet can shark the pack for a good goal. The Eagles are definitely a better team with him in their forward line.

Yeah good point. I read an article today and didn't realise they were underdone (bulldogs). So I guess last weeks game was a better gauge of where WCE are at. I just watched the last quarter of Geelong's game and they looked pretty ruthless (8.2).

But I still think if the swans can get their act together they're probably the only ones who can beat the cats or the eagles at their best.

Mate, he could have won them the 2005 Premiership. From memory he had a great opportunity to score from close range but the ball bounced away from him.

Push in the back on Barry Hall to give us the quarter time lead after being dominated for most of the first quarter.

Pushed Goodes when ball OOB and subsequent 50 metre penalty giving Goodes the chance to win the game with a minute left on the clock.

Can't really remember him doing anything else to be honest.

As I said, one of our best.

There were a few more great moments too. One was a very good mark from a wayward Sydney kick-in. But rather than going back and taking a set shot, he chose to play on and coughed it up.
