This sounds like the umpiring calling time-off. The umpire will blow his whistle to stop the clock when he runs in to line the man up on the mark. If he does so the player cannot play on as the clock has stopped and hence the ball will be returned to the kicker.
I dare say that is what happened.Comment

One other team that cops it from the Umps unfairly I think is Carlton. I am not a bluebagger sympathiser but the Umps really hate them. They never get the 50/50s.

If Carlton are dealt poorly by the umpires that we really are up the proverbial, considering the free kick count against Carlton a few weeks back when we played them was 14 27 against us!Swannies for life!Comment
