I got to hand it to Roos. While McViegh deserved to get dropped this season it was the better move to keep him in the side and back him. Players get a huge anount of confidence that way. However players like Monty and Schnieder are all the better for a week in the twos to get some of the ball

I am usually one of the first to put the boot into McVeigh but last night he was good. Definitely better in a small forward role like Mark Williams from the Dawks.
I was watching the 2006 season highlights DVD the other day and J-Mac did some real good things and it reminded me that he has obviously got some talent. But it is a highlights package and it doesnt show the crap he did either!!Comment

Let's not go nuts. A few decent games after five seasons and 70+ games is very disappointing for a #5 draft pick, particularly given many of the players taken after him. Gerard Bennett had more stand-out games than McVeigh with far fewer opportunities, and where is he now?
This must be a sign of genuine progress rather than a hot patch for him to be anything less than disappointing.Last edited by Donners; 13 August 2007, 04:19 PM. Reason: "a disappointing" is not a valid merger of "a disappointment" and "disappointing"...Comment

I will admit (publicly) that I did stand up and praise McVeigh (allah-style) after the third goal.
It's about time he pulled up his socks and contributed positively to the team.

There's a bit of a pattern emerging with some of these out of form players. Makes you often wonder what is the cause and effect. Player gets told to do a tight tagging job, doesn't get a lot of the footy, looks shocking when he does. It appears after a number of weeks the shackles are allowed off and all of a sudden said players starts to get a bit of it, kicks a few, he (and the whole team) start to look a lot better for it.Comment
