    Lack of faith in Forwards

Watching tonights game cannot help but feel frustrated at a game that should have been won. How many times were they 80 , 90 metres out, ball in hand, from a mark, indecisive as to whether to kick long but instead opting for a fruitless short pass - or even kicking backwards - only to see a turnover. Clearly they cannot trust anyone in the forward line to take a contested mark - especially Barry Hall. Bloody frustrating and entirely predictable. When going forward they seem bereft of ideas. Cost us the game IMO.

Our forward line gets talked up a lot, but they have really fallen short lately. Mickey lost his magic tonight, ROK had a rare bad game and while Barry marked better, his kicking was woeful.

Barry hall had one of his best games of the year (bar kicking) he caught marks tonight somehting he has been struggling to do this season. If Sydney had kicked straight we would have won simple. Brisbane were kepted in the match by us not putting them away in teh 1st 3 Qrts

Sadly, had our general delivery to the forward line been better, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. For me, that's been one of the most disappointing aspects of our season thus far.

Frankly, I'm surprised Roos didn't play Everitt and Jolly more up forward. It's also becoming increasingly apparent that Nick Davis really struggles to take contested marks.

It would be nice to have a decent forward in our team who could be 100% switched on and take the marks that matter, make the leads that matter, and have the confidence in those kicking the ball to them.

Sadly, we did. His name was Barry Hall.

It was the same against the saints but we came out on top in that one. On many attacks we could have kicked to a 3 on 3 situation, instead we would choose to pause, contemplate and wait for a clear opportunity while the numbers flooded into our forward line where there would be 20 or more players. I thought our forward line was one of our great strengths! Hall, O'Loughlin, Davis mostly perform better with a bit of room to move. Aside from some legendary opportunism that is.

What is glaringly obvious is that when MOL, Hall and Davis are on a lead rarely does anyone run the contest to pick up the spilled ball. In most cases it was one on one with our forwards with a Brisbane player lurking behind for the loose ball.

We do a lot of hard gut running but I wonder sometimes if it should be directed in a slightly different way. Gee I cant remember the last time Luke Ablett gathered a loose ball in the forward line or ran to a contest for that matter to help out.

Sorry. my mistake. We did have that forward. Unfortunately our execution to the big man was wanting a little. Although he did have a few brain fades himself tonight.

Yeah this is why I think McVeigh would be better suited creating on the forward line than being a run with player. Maybe get Davo up the ground a bit to get the pill himself. Lets start making opposition players accountable for US!

And by the way, ROK needs to lift his work effort. He is such a better player when just running all night. Second half last week was close to vintage ROK. We need him to be up the ground and running his opponents of their nuts. Perhaps he's injured?

Well said. Kick it in before we get flooded and use the forward momentum of running players. The negating mindset of our midfield puts us at risk of turnovers far too often.

part of the problem is that none of our forwards is able to beat their opponent on a lead at the moment and the team is taught to kick it only to the leading forward. and our crumbers are told to stay out to allow the forward space for the lead.

MOL leads, the ball falls short (too often) or gets knocked away, he gets possession under pressure, looks to give it off, oh oh no one there, so needs to try to beat his man and the drifting loose back, usually a turnover. This happens so often that the opposition coaches are clearly working to a plan on our forwards. Ditto Barry Hall.

I reckon Hall would have kicked 5 last night had he been leading into the corridor
