Everyone's favourite Swans Michael O'Loughlin and Paul Roos on the topic of drugs

Sydney player Michael O'Loughlin said yesterday that he believed players should be named after a first failed drug test. "I'd like to see it so that ? once you've done the damage, you've probably got to get named and then get the counselling," O'Loughlin said
    Source

Roos was asked if he had ever sat in the coaches' box and seen a "Superman" performance and wondered if the player was getting a little help.

    "No comment," he said.

"Ideally, you'd probably say every player gets tested every single week, twice a week, but is that possible?"
    Source

I'd think it would certainly be possible to ensure every player gets tested at least once a season!

    Bah.......

Naming and shaming (Thanks Today Tonight ) should be the LAST option. If someone has a problem, public humiliation is hardly the answer.

Though increased drug testing isn't such a bad thing. But every player after every game? What a freaking nightmare! Not to mention what a breach of their civil rights.

There needs to be some sort of limitations placed on these invasive tests. Perhaps six players from every team. 4 at random, 2 selected by a 3rd party (Perhaps umpires or opposing coaches???). But to test everyone after every game is just ridiculous.

So will Crouch and MOL have an argument over this?
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

          Agree!!

We are referring to recreational drugs here. What makes an AFL player any different to a medical practitioner, or a pilot, or a taxi driver, or a journalist?

We dont test any of these people for anything they may take on their days off. For the most part there are no testing procedures in place for when they are at work.

For those that are trying to form a lynch mob, lets apply the same level of indignation to all professions. Lets demand that all employers test regularly. Lets sack all those employees that fail one test, and put their faces and names on display. How well would you or your family stand up to that level of scrutiny. How many times have you gone to work just a little under the weather from the night before?

The AFL should be applauded for its policy.
We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty.

I'm pretty sure pilots are tested.
As for taxi drivers, they do random breath testing, just like the rest of us.
            Jurno's ... I reckon they'd melt the machines!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Yes, but not on a day off.

Define a "day off" for a footy player.
Typically ... Monday he does recovery, Tuesday he watches how badly he played on the weekend (McV), Wednesday he goes to the doctor, Thursday he trains, Friday he's either playing or training, Saturday he's playing or doing something social for the club, Sunday he's either recovering or playing.
Add to that all the club responsibilities, maybe some study and the odd game of golf. (Scenarios may change from day to day or club to club, but that's the general gist of it all.)

They basically work for the club (in some way, shape or form) seven days a week for the time they are under contract.
They can be tested on any one of those days, in season.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

It is possible to hold a different view to another, and to respect that view, without the need to "argue" about it.

                      That's utter crap!
                      You are WRONG
What would make you say such a thing?
My view is the RIGHT one, and you are going to have to concede that.
                      Wanna fight?

Crouch doesn't appear to be that sort of folk!

Not if you're thinking about flying a plane.
