It's a little ridiculous to claim that Davo's return today was due to him working harder. The fact is he was used as a key target up forward today for a change and we looked the better team for it.

[Shameless bragging]Originally posted by SimonH during the weekSydney will beat the Hawks next week. Even without Buchanan and Micky O. Provided Leo plays (and at least one of Dempster/LRT wouldn't hurt). Bookmark it.
Although I will admit that Leo and the rest of the backline were nowhere near as crucial as I expected to the win; they had either no delivery or poor delivery to the forward line until the game was already gone.
We wanted the pill much, much more than them. And we had, and used, multiple quality targets up forward. Those two things were basically the story of the game.
Hawthorn had so much to play for, and surrendered so meekly, that Clarkson had obviously done a pretty poor job in mentally preparing them.
While Malceski wasn't terribly good today, our backline looks infinitely better when Leo is there to take the pressure off him and undertake some dashing/suicidal runs of his own. LRT had occasional moments of looking rusty (dropped uncontested mark from a short chip pass 10 metres out from goal, anyone?), but by and large was surprisingly assured. And he could've kicked Crouch's arse in any footrace.
And how freakin' good was Dempster? Sure, didn't have a huge amount to do, but when he was pressed into service, he has good body strength, is quick, doesn't give away silly frees, doesn't make disposal errors, and is a 70 metre-gain player when he gets the ball free on the half-back line. The comparison between him and Brennan playing the same role in the defence is no comparison at all. He's so underappreciated by other fans (and for that matter the selection panel) that I wonder whether everyone else's watching a different bloke to me.
The only other guy who hasn't been mentioned enough by others is Everitt. He singlehandedly saved 2 or 3 goals by plucking marks on the last line of defence, and (despite at least one brain-fade) just has an exceptional footy brain in picking the right option when he has the pill.
Looking forward to Collingwood. Hawthorn are a team with an excellent percentage against other sides who match up poorly on Sydney. Collingwood are exactly the reverse. The perfect test of whether we're capable of learning from defeat.Comment

I have no idea how opposition fans or players rate Dempster, but i think he's a gun, and i hope we don't use him as trade bait and then see him really blossom at another club.Comment

I enjoyed that review, and i love seeing someone as enthusiastic as Dempster as i have been for years now. The kid has pretty much everything, except maybe enough confidence to really grab a game by the scruff of the neck, and i blame that on the selection panel, who've never really made him feel like a permanent part of the side.

Geez I love it when the swannies make me eat my words.
I even had fries on the side!!
OMG. How cool was it to see nine goals kicked in the second quarter instead of nine behinds? Accuracy has it's advantages.
The only downer for me was that they let the hawks in after half time.
I think the half time difference was 71 points, and we won by 72??
Equates to a one point win in the second half (I used the calculator).
Free drinkies at the chairman's gig after the game was a blast!!
Whatever they experimeted with, I think it worked (albeit in the first half).
I'll put money on the fact that Maltmouth and his boys started disecting the video thirty seconds after the final siren. God help them if the swannies come out playing like that next week.Last edited by AnnieH; 3 September 2007, 09:54 AM.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

I hate it that some on here have bagged him for getting pinged for HTB when (usually) Leo has set him up with a handpass as he (leo) ia almost being tackled and Sean is tackled as he takes the ball or after one step. On one occassion against Geelong it gave away a goal, but it was the typical Leo handpass to someone under more pressure than himself.(blames on dempster by some on here)
Good player who could be great given the games in the seniors.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

Wouldn't we be a better side if Leo for once did the logical thing with the ball rather than the traditional swerve which by now every player expects. With reference to an earlier comment it would also help the apparent clanger count of others.
I sometimes wonder if Roos ever talks to him?Comment
