If you can't tackle...ya don't play on the backline...at least.
I agree re most kicks...but he doesn't always get it right on the kick out...& decision making with hand or foot is not as hot as some would suggest.

yeah he has the occasional blunder or clanger (as does Goodes) but they give so much in terms of run, creativity and attack - something severely lacking with most of our other players.

I would rather Malceski than a Ablett/Kirk/JBolton have a shot on the run from 50 or deliver a bullet to a leading forward as he'll hit 4 out of 5 times. That one clanger is about three less than an Ablett, Kirk or JBolton would return in the same scenario.

Players like Macleski and Goodes (and to a lesser extent Buchanan) may make mistakes, but they make up for it with the exciting positive play. Too many safe players is boring and paradoxically may increase the risk of losing.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

          Concur.......

He may cough it up a few times with some very, very ordinary clangers... But when he does get it right (Which is more often than not), he does superbly well.

Like Goodes, a pleasure to watch in full flight!

Yeh like going for the ball at centre bounces instead of blocking. When the ball came in quick from those breaks in the second Q our forwards were all over them. We have the quality up forward when the ball comes in quick and we seemed to be everywhere on the forward line.

When it comes in quick like that it puts so much more pressure on the backs and the Dawks fumbled and bumbled and turned it over.

Memo Fozzie: stop those dumb toe pokes from 50 metres to nothing when clear. Have a ping for goodness sakes when on the run.

Except they play in the backline.

Playing him across half forward and into the middle really improved our entry into the 50. He has been tagged so heavily coming out of the backline recently that his effectiveness has fallen away as a set up player. If Kennelly comes back on Saturday hopefully Roos will leave him further up the ground as this move just gives our forward entries so much more precision. Is a long enough kick to slot a goal or two from the 50 as well.

And he's far from being the only one. They could take lessons from Bevan.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
