heard from someone associated with Port Melbourne that there's a good chance of Swans teaming up with Port again

They may not have any competition to play in.
Sydney's five-year agreement to play in the ACT league has expired and the club is in negotiations with AFL Canberra to stay.

But if the league and Swans can't come to terms, the Victorian options could be limited after Sydney officials rejected an offer from VFL club Port Melbourne and failed to follow up an inquiry to field a stand-alone team.

The big proposal under consideration is limiting the number of listed players to 12 (as opposed to 15 this year).

Wouldn't that mean blokes would have to miss games at least once every 3 weeks?

They are better off allocating 3-5 players to each club.

The would take away the one true advantage that the Canberra League provides - our players get the chance to play together using the same 'system' as the senior side.

That would be a terrible outcome for the Swans. Limiting it to 15 was bad enough, meaning that players had to sit out even when fit, while some not-up-to-scratch top-ups loitered in a back pocket. (Not all of them - some were very effective but the quality was mixed.)

Well I can almost assure you that the same conditions that existed this year will not apply next year. Perhaps the idea of not playing for premiership points may placate some of the dissenting clubs, but I think this could open the possibility of clubs 'resting' some players when they play us.

All scenarios which involve the Canberra league are pretty bad. Perhaps leaving the comp would be the best option.

But where would we go? The VFL has pretty much said their deadline is up, and I would think AFLQ wouldn't be keen to undertake such a venture at such a late stage either.

Well the only reason I can think of as to why we refused to join the VFL would be the travel factor, so it would be illogical to join AFLQ.

I'm at a loss tbh. I have no idea what we're gunna do.

I hope we don't go the way of not playing for premiership points, I think that would be rather demoralizing for the fringe and "aspiring to fringe" players.
