Exactly. I didn't realise Cousins did that silly twirly thing on the podium until this week as they strted putting it in ads leading up to the finals. I have managed to shut my eyes to all references to last year's game as I didn't want the hurt to get in.
What hurt more?

Nothing will be worse than the disapppointment of last year, but mixed with disappointment was pride. This year it is just disappointment...
The Magpies fans around our seats were going off, really giving it too us. I would have been happy for us to lose by 50 to West Coast next week if we could just fight back and steal the match from them. That is how desperate I got!!Comment

Definitely 06 hurt more. What's worse for a footy fan than losing a GF by one point?? Plus, I was preggers with 2nd bub last GF so couldn't even drown my sorrows in a sea of cheap bourbon!! At least last Saturday, we could see we were going to lose and prepare for it. Still hate losing to Collingwood tho. Especially seeing Eddie's smug face after the game.I might have a slight drinking problem. My husband asked me to toast some bread for him...so I raised my wine glass and said "Here's to bread!"Comment

A couple of days have passed & my attitude towards things has gone the full circle. Gone is the desperate fear of what is going to come in the next few seasons (that could be seen on many a face at pizza after the game). In is the realisation that we were in no way good enough to compete with in the finals & really were there under false pretences.
The thing that concerns me the most now that the scarves have been packed into a bag & flags folded away & put in the cupboard until next march is Roos' attitude towards our demise. He is coming across in the same light the Iraqi Minister of Information did before their country got pummelled. "Problem, what problem? There ain't no problem here".
A thread on Bigfooty got me thinking. Is the fact that teams like us and Adelaide have not prospered in the finals a sign that defensive football & flooding is 'out' & attacking running open football is 'in'? If so then that may not necessarily be bad for us at all. As long as we start to adapt, that is. I deep down fear that Roos has 'his' coaching philosophy than consists of Plan A & Plan A+. This is just playing into hands of shrewd coaches like Thompson & Malthouse who know that guys like Leo Barry are not getting any older & will not be able to break tackles running out of defence forever.
I guess what goes up has to come down as well. I just hope we do a Port & can rebound quickly & adapt to new trends in modern day footy. I fear Paul Roos won't & our chronic lap of depth will really start to hamper us.
