Free kick difference

Now I just want to start by saying I'm not blaming the umpires for our finals exit. Although the pies were definitely on the recieving end of many more favourable free kicks than we were.... it didn't change the result.

The main reason for this tread is that I truly believe we are treated differently to every other team in the AFL. week in, week out, we are raped by the umpires, and I cannot remember the last time we had more free kicks than our opposition in a match....

Anyway, here are some stats of free kick differences for the 2007 season.

This trends continues seson after season.
I truly believe that we are targeted. The AFL doesn't like our style of football and want to eradicate it from the game. Hence the rules changes that all go against the way we play.

There's an easy way to fix that, play differently to how we have been playing.

Some of the HTB decisions there was no prior opportunity at all,but they weren't the only ones.In all we get crucified by the refs.

get the ball and move it on. The umps know we try to lock it in to create a stoppage, so ping us with the marginal ones whilst WestCoast, Geelong, Kangaroos and other teams who play more attacking footy get the benefit of the doubt.

Also doesn't help that you have Barry Hall giving away 20 frees a game whilst getting nothing in return for even the most blatant infringements by his opponents.

There's no surprise that we give away more free kicks. When you're always playing behind and having to tackle players to try and get the ball, you're bound to give a few away.

No, a you can't say that every umpire is biased against the Swans.
Clearly the Swans give away free kicks.

I blame the maggots for it, especially after they came out with the "protecting pure ball winners" line earlier in the year. They admitted bias.

The one thing I do notice with the Swans is that we really don't seem to benefit much from 'crowd' decisions at home. Most crowds can turn a few 50/50's into a free kick but we don't seem to have that ability, I think generally we suffer from the "Sydney doesn't know anything about footy" thing.

I do think our style causes a lot of problems but yeah, we certainly do not get many favours on the 50/50's generally.

What was the free kick count last night? Must have been horrendous.

The game was in the balance until they paid that horrendous HTB vs Jude where Fraser clearly pulled the ball back in & then a worse one vs Fosdike when he was pushed in the back. Both led to goals and the momentum completely swung the Pies way.

Beaten by a better side but gee it must make it so much more relaxing knowing the umps will step in if it gets close.

I agree with the sentiment that this is a list, in order, of the clubs that play "attractive" footy.

It really gets on my nerves when Victorians claim to know how the game works. Fancy calling the judges refs!
