    Backing Kirk for the Brownlow

According to 7 news this morning, many people are backing Kirk for the Brownlow because he was not included on the ineligible list provided by the AFL to betting agencies.

Seems like the AFL stuffed up big time on this one. They'll probably blame it on the lunar eclipse.

    Why is he ineligiable?

Sydney co-captain Brett Kirk was also charged with making front-on contact, on Port Adelaide's Chad Cornes in the final term at the SCG yesterday, but can escape with a reprimand because of his good record.

Kirk can accept a reprimand and 70.31 points towards a future charge with an early guilty plea.

I thought this was covered when they bought in the points system.

You are only inelegiable if you are suspended, for matches.

          IIRC Goodesy wasn't suspended either.

Do I dare ask - how can the AFL stuff this up?? Sounds pretty straight forward to me

So what is the final say - is he eligable or not??

IIRC you are ineligible if you are charged with an offence drawing a base rate of greater than 100 points. If early pleas, good records etc mean the points drop below 100 so you aren't suspended, this means you don't get suspended but are still Brownlow ineligible.

              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

He has a great record, so what was his points count??

Apparently it was 125, which rules him out.

I wasn't aware of it and had $10 each way on him about round 16.
Must have jinxed him as he hardly got a kick after that.

At least I can get my money back.

                    How?

If there is a way to reclaim losing bets I'd love to know!

Just playing devils advocate here a little......

My understanding is that the betting could still be conducting on the basis that he gets the most votes? (I think some agencies actually do this?) Remembering, that he can still receive votes even though ineligible, but not actually win the Brownlow.

Further to that, I notice today that the Bookies are generously offering to refund any bets taken after round 8. Now being the pessimist that I am, it makes me wonder... Are the bookies, who, IMHO, are a bunch of bent money grabbing bastards. Being generous, or do they have a real fear that Kirk could actually win at the staggering odds given at the start of the year of about 125-1, 100-1, etc that some cheecky bugger dropped $1,000 or so on???

                      Hmmmmm......

Some betting agencies do offer a "most votes" option.

However, the main market is for the player(s) who actually wins the medal.

Darwin Sportsbet and all other agencies will refund all bets on Kirk after Round 8.
Hope it applies to Sports TAB.
