    Collingwood breaks ties with Williamstown

It was just announced on ABC tv that Collingwood will no longer be tied to Williamstown in the VFL. They will field a stand alone team in the VFL based out of Princes Park.

This is a smart move by the Pies. It gives them the advantage we have, of training the seconds the same way as the firsts, with the huge advantage of playing in a much better league than our seconds. Add to this the effect of the Collingwood Academy for their youngsters and they will be even better positioned than they have managed to be this year.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'm looking forward to seeing how our ressies play in the VFL comp next year.
I wonder if they'll still get scorelines of 250+?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Which, of course, is a major plus.
A bit of "real" competition will give us a better indication of how "fantastic" our youngins really are.
At the moment, in the sucko comp they play in, they're all superstars.

          Have I missed something?

The Swans are playing in the VFL next season?

I'm sure that was the gist of the discussion had weeks ago.
I don't have time to find the thread now - I'll do a search later.

              EDIT: Thanks Vic.

AFL Victoria has also received interest from the Sydney Swans ? whose five-year contract with AFL NSW/ACT has ended ? about fielding a stand-alone team in the TRUenergy VFL.
It's not a done deal though, right?!

No, not yet. Hopefully it will happen, be goods to see the reserves playing against a higher standard.

So why did you state it as fact two posts ago??

                    It's not confirmed at all.

Its more than wishful thinking at this stage. How are we going to afford to fly 22 players down every 2nd week, plus who pays for teams to fly up here for our home games?

Who cares who pays for it. It is more important that our reserves get to develop against good opposition.

I see the thread was born on the 8th, Pie Day and was dead by the time I got back to Sydney. Add the 2 or 3 days I was too depressed to come to RWO and get more depressed by the negativity, I'm not surprised I missed it.

How is it more important if we cannot afford to sustain the cost of playing in the VFL? The club doesn't exactly have spare change lying around the place.

Agree. Cost will be a major consideration.

And if the AFL chips in there will be 15 other clubs who would have some justification to expect the same handouts.
