Matthew Richardson wins Tigers best and fairest

    Congratulations to Matty Richardson.
One of the most maligned stars of the game, it is a great reward for him to finally win a Jack Dyer Medal.
It was a great year for Nathan Foley and he should win his share of medals, but Richo deserves to be able to call himself a best and fairest winner.
12 leading goalkicker awards? Great stuff.

"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

Good to see non-midfielders win B&F awards, very un-Brownlow like.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

It always makes me wonder about that when the Brownlowe Medallist doesn't win his clubs B&F.

I think a big part of it is that every club uses a different criteria for their own B&F, and also a different voting system so a player may earn top votes from his club for a match where he doesn't earn a vote from the umpires simply because he did exactly as the club asked him to, which may not have been the flashy, high-possession game that umpires seem to notice.

It can also make it hard to compare winners from different clubs (if one were wanting to of course!) due to the different criteria and voting schemes. I can't be bothered, but it would be interesting to see how each B&F winner went in the Brownlow compared to his teammates etc (i.e. did he come first in both counts by a relatively similar margin, did he not rate at all in the Brownlow but rated in B&F etc).

That's because Brownlow votes are distrubuted between two competing teams, and generally the winning team will receive the most, if not all, votes. B&F votes are given only to the one team, thus if you play well in a losing team, not a winning one you can out score the Brownlow vote getters.

What about Geelong this year, they didn't have many losing games?

These were my tips from my AFL Top 10 player voting.
I think my points system has received another endorsement as being pretty close to the mark.

                            Apparently you don't rate defenders.
