We're going to "freshen up the list" by trading for a TJ type (2nd round pick older player as a top up).......so which one of the players who deserve another chance will get shafted there?????

The only way it's possible to reconcile these two stements is if the first few rounds will be a non-merit based "select and see" series of trial games, where 10 or 12 players get randomly rotated in for a game or two to see who has the most impact and who is past it.

I'm sure our early opponents will be thrilled to see that we won't have settled on a team before round four!!!

On the other hand, the optimist in me says that what will happen is an HONEST appraisal of the WHOLE list during the pre-season and that the players with the best CURRENT FORM will actually get selected.

The make-up of our midfield beyond Kirk, Malceski and Goodes should be entirely up for grabs.

Bolton had possibly his worst season in his 9 seasons at the club, Monty was well down on 05/06 form. A week after the GF they launch a business venture which would have kept their minds well and truly occupied (and probably a bit stressed) during the year.

I have no doubt Goodes' early poor form and out of character acts of madness can be attributed to his relationship problems.

You can't lock them in rooms with footy videos 24/7, but somehow they must be made to realise that footy doesn't last forever for them, they should give 100% committment while they have the chance. You're a long time retired.

I read a few years ago that all the younger players are encouraged to study or do something to secure their long-term futures. It also helps to "keep them off the streets".
