    Buckley to retire?????

According to ABC radio Melbourne, Collingwood is holding a press conference this afternoon, the assumption is that Buckley will be announcing his retirement then.

    Now that's sad.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

          It's been confirmed. Retired.

Bucks in an example of "a good role model for the AFL". I hope he stays invovled in footy.

Once again, it would have been nicer had he mentioned it before the granny. Give the ferals a chance to say-goodbye - AND the AFL to do the right thing and send him off with four pages of his own in the granny record (a la Hird).

With all the soft tissue injuries he has suffered over the years and following an injury-ravaged season this year, he's made the right choice to retire. One of the modern day greats and champions of the game, too bad he never fulfilled his premiership dream.

Apologies to Ruda but I'm not really fussed. He never raised the hate or envy in me that some other opposition players have managed.

Why apologise? He's a Collingwood player !!!! Oh well to make ends meet, (assuming the Mrs still has her posh shoe shop) he can work Thursday nights and Saturday mornings. Eddie looked more upset that Buckley did at the press conference. I'm sure he will be an assistant coach sooner rather than later and then will take over the top job from Mighty Mick when they sever his contract because they still havent won another flag.

In some ways the low key way wins more respect. End of a great career.

Far out, this year has been terrible for retirments.

                          Mark Ricciuto
                          Chris Grant
                          James Hird
                          Peter Bell
                          Kouta
                          Glen Archer

And I've probably missed a few....

Quite a few .... I think 36 players retired "before" the granny (and two more since) ... my count says 38 (yes, I used the calculator).

Not when you're talking about high-calibre players like Hird, Buckley, etc. Besides, I'm sure (for those higher-calibre players) that footy has perhaps let them miss a lot of time with their kiddies.
