    Swans Should Rebuild

Time is running away from the swans and the way they have played football. This was the last year of them trying to steal a flag. Need to start rebuilding the youth of the squad. Squad is getting too old for flag attempts, should trade players that have some currency.

If Essendon try to recruit older player it is a prime example of the futile efforts of egos. Need to realise where you are and build for the next flag attempt with a strong squad, with depth and runners.

      Steal the flag from who?

That is a stupid statement. The Swans realised that they were a ruckman short of a premiership after the 2006 GF, so they recruited a ruckman in the off season. To say that is trying to steal a flag is moronic in the extreme. Before the season starts everyone is in the same boat, all in the same position trying to win the flag. The flag belongs to no-one. How is recruiting to win that flag stealing it?

Break a 44 year drought and look at the arrogance that emerges.

it does not mean trying to actually steal it, it is an expression used in the football chat, its like rolling the dice and hoping for the best
you think you were almost there and try again, understanding it could backfire
ie when you have an aging list, and roll dice again

it must be coz you are in nsw, and not withit

            I'm In Victoria.

I have followed Aussie rules for over 40 years and have never heard the expression of trying to steal a flag, unless it is in the GF itself, maybe it's a country Victoria thing.

BTW if you want to continue trolling you won't last long here.

swans stole a prelim against the cats
if the pies beat geelong in the prelim and then beat port, then they stole the flag, coz a wce were ruined by judd, cous, kerr and co, geelong had an off day, and port were not up to it
why is voicing an opinion trolling it

Right. We have only missed the finals twice since 1995. Not once in that time have we had to 'rebuild' and nor we will this time.

There was no 'last roll of the dice'. The Swans believed they were a ruckman short of a premiership in 2006, so they addressed this for 2007. In a year where a good portion of our major players were injured, we finished 7th.

Now, nobody here will care about this opinion you have about our lists. We have addressed this issue. Sydney cannot and will not 'completely' rebuild. We do not need to do so.

As for the comment about NSW, many supporters on this website are from Victoria. And many more would no doubt have more knowledge about Australian Football than you.

If your opinion of our lists is uneducated (which is obviously is), please do not make further comment.

                Thank you.

If the Pies beat Geelong it would have been an upset, a great performance from the Magpies and an unachievement from Geelong.

Nothing more. Nobody stole anything, you did not OWN the right.

Trolling is a harsh term. Perhaps our guest hasn't put it in the most elegant way, but I don't think they are far off the truth. Still, dancing into an opposition club's supporter forum and throwing around opinions just after winning the flag smacks a little of arrogance and is somewhat condescending.....

We WILL need to rebuild soon. We HAVE been topping up in the hope of continuing to challenge for a flag. I think in the old premiership clock parlance, we are probably at 1 o'clock or thereabouts. Past our prime and threatening to slip down again if we're not careful. IMO, we have probably one more year in which we can realistically win it if we recruit wisely in the off-season, and if the fringe players and young kids step up like they did in 2005.

After that, with mass-retirements looming, I think we can look forward to a couple of years mid-table (between 6-12) before we can be a threat again. I'm not sure we'll be in a spot to finish in the bottom 4, I think our talent coming through is a bit better than that (though still largely untested).

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....
