Carlton goes to Ireland for recruits.

    Carlton plunders Irish teen stocks

When you look at how they are recruiting, Carlton could be a huge force within a few years.

I was really disappointed and angry when I read this article. The Swans put enormous time & resources into Kennelly & will probably do the same with Murphy and then Carlton come up with sheer bribery like this...

Carlton football operations manager Steven Icke flew into Dublin last night and was scheduled to meet the four junior Gaelic footballers, offering them $1600 apiece on the condition they choose the Blues should they decide to try to make the grade in AFL football.

Why? Is it becuase Carlton thought of doing this after obviously spending time and money investigating the local talent etc and the Swans didnt. How much time and money have the invested in the Setanta and Asaike? I bet by the end of the day they will have invested a hell of a lot more in Setanta than you will in Kennelly. I make that assumption rather simply in the belief that Setanta has had to grasp/learn more given his background was more Hurling than Gaelic.

Should the rest of the football community cry out in anger at the Swans hiding a young ruckman you have managed to hide for the past 12 months and have train in secret whilst exploiting a little known clause?http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/foo...E20322,00.html

Personally rather than be a bit bitter and twisted I congratulate the Swans on what appears to be very astute management.

Maybe your anger should be directed at a particular piece of @@@@ who is in charge of our game and ask him to explain why moving a club that has been broke more often than not in the Kangaroos to the Gold Coast necessitates priority drafting allowances etc etc. Didnt North finish top four this year? Surely they need financial assistance not draft picks and special zoning requirements - There is currently a draft in place and if you believe their current ladder position surely their future success is more determined on good draft management not special handouts?

The Spew is a vindictive little @@@@ whose retirement I can see soon enough.

Offering players $1600 to sign with your club ahead of anyone else is a bribe pure and simple. If Carlton have put in the time and money to investigate the local talent to sign with your club like you say, then you wouldn't need to offer an a bribe to finalise the deal. The time and effort would be enough because the player would know that a) Carlton is interested in them b) they have a rookie contract waiting for them regardless of the $1600 and c) the scouts would of made a connection with the player (and therefore the club) making a move that much easier. But heck just bribe away....

        Funny stuff that.

Forgetting the fact Setanta and his brother both spent time in Sydney when they were younger and also were exposed to Aussie Rules in their time in Australia before moving to Ireland. So they had some background in the game and unlike Kennelly, at least knew what they were getting themselves into.

They should, but then again we used a loophole to get around that. Its easy for the AFL to close the loophole for future years. What's to stop the AFL from allowing clubs bribing Irish kids to sign with them. It should be a fair market, not a market for the club with the biggest checkbook.

Maybe because if your going to move a club from Melbourne to the Gold Coast, then you would want them to have plenty on LOCAL players on their playing list (which their priority allowances would be for), so they would appeal to their local market. But I doubt that idea has crossed your mind. The VFL stuffed up the Swans move to Sydney in 82 and I feel they would go close to doing the same thing with the Roos this time around, unless they give them access to Gold Coast players and Financial Support.

Didnt North finish top four this year?
But when are they moving and what will their ladder position be then and how many of their players agree to move??? The AFL isn't giving them special zone picks until they make the move and that is at least 3 to 4 years away.

Surely they need financial assistance not draft picks and special zoning requirements
If they move they would need both, zone picks in the short term and financial assistance in the long term. If they stay they will need financial assistance in the long term anyway.

There is currently a draft in place and if you believe their current ladder position surely their future success is more determined on good draft management not special handouts?
Then I take it your more than happy to hand back Pick 1 this year because your ladder position didn't warrant it?? Of course you wouldn't be, so don't spew that crap about "a draft" when your club is taking advantage of the "special picks" from it.
