    Ablett: my drugs shame

Interesting article on Gary Ablett and his drugs problem. I met him once when he was in rehab near Kyabram where we were living at the time. Seemed a nice bloke, but was obviously still working through the drugs problems.

Well there's something we all didn't know.
    Firstly ... uuummmmmmmm mmmmmaaaarrrrrrrrr.

He's ok now. Jesus saved him.
Is he still on drugs? It didn't say.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

No, I think Jesus gave up the drugs a few thousand years ago.

I think it is time for Ablett snr to put the past behind him and looked to seeing his sons develop in the future.
I know he is not a guy of great confidence but I feel he would be a great motivator for youngsters telling them how drugs messed up his life and how he had a long time in rehab and how difficult it is to be accepted again.

I wonder how many here would advocate Ben Cousins as a drug educator if he cleaned up his act?

OK, he was addicted to drugs. Fair enough, he's come "out" like the rest.

What about the poor girl that died in the motel room? Why didn't he come out then and admit he problem then?

Mmmmmm. He's got a book coming out. Nothing like a bit of "sensational" publicity to help the cause.

Ablett thanked his "relationship with Jesus" for enduring his self-destructive behaviour.

Ablett is due to release a sport-oriented biography early next month.

The book does not refer to Ms Horan's death.

"It's a football book and I don't think it's appropriate, and I don't want to be in any way profiting from that tragedy," he said.
... so why did he come out and admit he had a problem now?

Coz it is in his book and he needs the good publicity to get people to buy it.

But that's just it, it's NOT in the book.

I think I'd want to know all about it. It was sensational at the time, and was part of the reason he "went into hiding", before coming out and saying he's "depressed".

Oh well, at least he's assured sales from the Geelong faithful. I hope he's not thinking of retiring on the royalties!!

I though it was amusing on Today Tonight last night with Anna the Spanner introducing the segment as if its the first time anyone had heard that "God" had a drug history and that "God" had actually found "God". ho hum!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Gary senior was involved with 'The Church' for most of his playing career. I think it was as a 'Born Again Christian' A friend of mine worked with him at Ron Hovey's transport company, probably at the end of his career, and Ablett appeared to spend most of his free time reading a Bible, so finding God is not something new.
Today the Geelong Advertiser has an interview with Alisha Horan's father.

Exactly - thats the things its old news, But the way Channel 7 put it across, you'd have thought it was breaking news to them - amazing.

If I were her family, I'd be livid.

He doesn't want to profit from her death, yet is more than willing to promote his book by bringing himself directly into media spotlight by admitting he had a drug problem and bought her name up in relation to it (yet admits that it doesn't rate a mention in the said book).
