          Western Sydney

I guess that would mean they would play their home games on a proper sized oval?

I would follow them in preference to watch Sydney's boring 'stoppage' football any day at the SCG. You may even get a beer that tastes like the real thing....

I grew up in the "inner west". Homebush Bay is considered "inner west".

Anything west of Broadway is considered "western suburbs", when, in fact, it's not.

The "western suburbs" is traditionally regarded as west of Flemington ... 14k's from the city.

Why are you even on this forum?

Insert predictable comment: You're just jealous because you wont have a team to follow in 09.

Pfffttttt... as far as I'm concerned, it's not even West until you get past Parramatta. To get to Telstra Stadium, I have to go 30 minutes EAST.

As for Collingwood playing 5 away games in Sydney... They would first have to convince 5 other clubs to give up THEIR home games. I can't see any of the SA or WA clubs doing it, or Brisbane. The Melbourne clubs wouldn't go for it either as they would get bigger crowds in Melbourne. Unless there is a hell of a financial incentive, I can't see it happening. If Collingwood want to play 5 games in Sydney, I reckon they will have to give up their OWN home games. Not going to happen.

Would I support a Western Sydney team?

No, I've already made my choice. Perhaps if there was a Western Sydney team in the comp when I started becoming interested in the AFL (1997)... but not now. I might follow their results with interest, and might go to a few games, but that's about it.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

A brand new team in the Western Suburbs would become my second team and means I get to see more live AFL.

You go past Flemington then turn right and come back a bit. HBB is north of Homebush.

Either way ... it's not that far from the city.

When "they" talk about teams in the west, I assume they mean "west of Parramatta", i.e. where the majority of the population live.

I guess the difference in Sydney compared to Pertha and Adelaide is that most Swans fans would take on a Western sydney team AS WELL (ie number 2...the way so many Melbourne based fans took on the Swans as their number 2 team in the 80s). For a sizable number it would be a bonus to have a second team to support when the Swans are away. I'd definitely make them number 2 and I live in Victoria. As far as I'm concerned the more AFL takes over the world, the better. It's the greatest game of all

The Bogans comment surprised me coming from you.

                              A very fair comment!
I'm sure that's the least they could ask for in any Sydney-Sider.

A second team is at least around 10 years away, I think.

screw that idea... Ive got red and white blood and Im a swan for life- none of this supporting a second sydney side. All it is is Collingwood trying to make their draw even more favourable by only having one venue to travel to interstate. Watch them try and get the gold coast games as away games now- hopefully it will never happen as the AFL surely have more balls then that to fall on its knees to the Pies.
As for a second sydney team, it will happen eventually but cant see it eventuating for at least another 10 years. The Dogs are the team that will end up here I feel, as the rooboys I feel have signed there own death warrant and Hawthorn are already building a good foundation for a future larger involvement in Tassie.
